Condolences to all Parrotheads

Let this be the beginning of the coconut telegraph
It already exists :)
I may have some close friends who are /were parrot heads. I may have been to some meetings every time I visit them. I might have been at an opening of a Margaritaville.
Or maybe not.

This is a copy and paste from another thread. I had just found out this am from one our fellow Lit members on a music thread:

I’m one of those Parrot Heads….this was the first I heard…thanks for the heads-up Pad Foot…

Growing up a beach kid, Jimmy was a constant summer soundtrack. First on the radio, then as we got older he was on the sound system of every bar on the boardwalk and any pier you walked on. Later summer parties everyone here loved the carefree songs of parties and beaches. We even had a local tribute band that was really good to go see when I finally could get in bars.

Had all the major albums, the box set, and I read every damn book the man wrote. I usually tune into his Siruis Channel at least one a week, although I admit some of the concerts he changes the lyrics so much I started not listening…a forgivable sin if you’ve been singing the same damn songs for over 50yrs!

Saw him for the first time in Phoenix Of all places. Would have been ‘93. The First Phoenix 500 Air Race (now defunct). I paid $32 for two tix. That got my wife and I into the races, the air shows, and the highlight Jimmy played that night out between the runways.

At the time a group out of Tucson had restored a Lockheed Constellation. They pulled the Connie out and the group sat on the wings for the show! At some point (I don’t think it was arranged as Jimmy looked surprised!) during the encore, they turned all the landing lights on! Flooding the stage and basically overpowering the set lighting! It was a magic moment. Jimmy for his part played along, in Jimmy B fashion.

Damn…

Tough pill to swallow on this long weekend. I think there are a couple or three guys who’ve picked up the torch…Jack Johnson, Kenny Chesney, and Zac Brown. All have sort of lifted plays out of the Jimmy playbook, singing about the beach and a lifestyle of leisure.

Kenny has No Shoes radio on Sirius Satellite Radio, and his plane has tail art of a guitar leaning against a palm tree…

They’ve all sort of been blessed by Jimmy in one way or another doing songs and shows with him. There will never be another quite like him, but these guys are good ones to carry the legacy forward.

I am a Parrot-head and will honor Jimmy's passing by playing nothing but his music in my truck for the rest of the month.
