In another attempt to appease farmers who are being devastated by his tariffs on Chinese products, the con artist will now allow ethanol to be added to gasoline year round, at levels up to 15%.
Ethanol, produced from corn, has been added to U.S. gasoline stocks only in the winter months. Burning of ethanol produces higher levels of pollution while also significantly decreasing fuel mileage performance. Depending on your vehicle, you can easily see up to 10% less mileage per gallon than you would using straight gasoline.
In addition, ethanol is corrosive to certain components in engines. Older cars are especially susceptible to hose degradation or carbon build-up due to ethanol's less than stellar combustion properties.
Both oil companies and environmentalists decried the decision. Oil companies because they won't be able to sell as much oil to be turned into gasoline, and environmentalists because of the increased air pollution which will lead to higher incidents of asthma and other health issues. This doesn't take into consideration the increased cost to the taxpayers as they will have to shell out more money to get less mileage.

EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler said the changes weren’t motivated by political considerations or to appease farmers who have lost crop sales as a result of retaliatory tariffs China imposed on U.S. crops. He framed the rule changes as a fix to a troubled program that will boost sales for farmers and ethanol producers.
