I have my data backed up with ghost because i think i might know the answer already.

When i push the button to start up my computor the harddrive dies out before reaching full rpm's. I have to try four or five timies to get it started most of the time. This problem started about two months ago; I do not shut it off very often.
Gateway sent me a new powersupply, which i installed with no change to the problem.

Has anyone got any ideals what could be causing this? My computer restarts just fine.

Thanks for any input you may have. yes, even trolls!:D

Bearing or drive motor failure -- time to buy a new drive. (It could also be the drive electronics, but the solution is the same.)

PS: Doesn't Ghost backup your data on the same drive? If you don't have two physical drives, your ghosted data is also going to disappear when the drive fails completely.

WH, thanks. Thats what i think also.

I used ghost to back up all my system to CD-R disk. that way i can install my complete system on another computer/harddrive if i have to.

This old country boy still has a few brain cells working.

Hard-drive failure.

Please supply the brand and model code of the drive and I can email you the diagnostic tools for the drive...if it is younger than three years old, you maybe still covered by warranty. Many companies require you to run their diagnostic software to verify the drive. Email or PM for the correct tool.

Draco!

thanks dude, but it's under warranty from gateway.

hell if they want to replace everything on the damned thing before they replace the harddrive that's ok with me!

i would like to know for myself so i will get the info and send it to you.

Draco, gateway sent me gwscan and my harddrive passedall the test.

when i phoned tech support the GDC unit worked perfect eight times in a row...of coarse! now they are jumping between loose wire and the motherboard. However they can't do anything as long as the damn thing is working right.

they suggested i take to a gateway store (bullshit) the nearest one is one hundred miles away.(like hell i will). so i will just type along and the next time i shut it down and it fells to start at the first button push i will call them back for another ration of bs.

thanks anyway. fgarvb1
