Computer Virus!

I use Anti-Virus Guard 6.0 to protect my computer as well as one can with freeware. I updated it this morning, ran a scan. Found a virus it couldn't remove from my drive so it tries to put it into the "Virus Vault" (I assume that essentially disables it without actually removing it). It tells me it couldn't move the file, and that my computer is still infected. The AVG 6.0 name for the virus was "Trojan Horse Downloader.Small.6.E", if that means anything to anybody. IF AVG can't remove it how do I get rid of it? Is my best course just to wait for the next AVG update and hope it has a cure in it? Thanks.

Try the Norton Symantic site, or Mcaffee one of them should be able to help.

i had a problem with a trojan horse not too long ago. i was told that its a hacker program. With it they can use your phone line to get into other sites; into other computer systems. The example given to me was this...they could bounce a signal off my PC that could conceiveably then be used to hack into the Pentagon.

i was told that it can also be used to tap into your long distance to get into premium sites. i don't have LD, so that wasn't a concern of mine...you may want to check your LD bill when it comes in, though.

AVS killed it for me...maybe mine was a different version than yours...

Good luck...

I can't find anything on it anywhere!

Thats not good.

Hope this helps

Go here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Once the page loads it will ask you to install a web application so that the site can run it's antivirus software on your computer. It will then ask you what drives to scan. Select C:\ in your case (I assume) then check off the 'AUTOCLEAN' option then click 'Scan' button it should find all virus(es) and ask you if you want to remove them or not.

Very good application.

I'm with Garvin here. I did some searching and also asked at a couple other computer forums I frequent, and they all knew nothing of it. I even checked at symantec.
Perhaps you didn't copy the name right?

Anyway, download this free trojan scanner: A2 Free
Just make sure you get the free version, then after you install it, you will have to go to the guys site to activate it by getting the latest updates. After that, run the scan from your desktop and it should find and remove that trojan. Run this scanner every week/week and a half or so, depending on how much and where you surf (i.e. PORN :D ). Just remember to always check for signature updates everytime before you run a scan.

Another good FREE trojan scanner (if you are using 2K or XP) is Ewido Security Suite Does bascically the same thing as A2. I have both on my machine and I run them both just in case one catches something the other doesn't see.

I had exactly the same virus a few weeks ago and AVG does not remove it. I went to Symantec and ran there online scan and not only did it clear the virus I had but it also found another two that AVG did not detect.

I ran a google search and I can't find this Symantec online scan. What's the web adress?

Be damned if I can get this thing off my drive for now, which is bad, nothing but AVG 6.0 seems to be picking it up and it can't remove it for now. The good news is I can't detect any obvious adverse efects that it is causing either. Still got a couple links here to check though, thanks for them all I'm sure there is a lurker or two who didn't mind getting this stuff either.

For the record, I picked it up in an adult chat room (not Literotica's) by clicking on a link somebody poseted, which promptly hit me and anyone else who clicked on it with about 75 trillion popups and that's where the virus came from. Wish I could remember the name of the clown who posted the link so I could've told the site's moderators and had him removed from the room permanently, since I'm sure I'm not the only one who ended up getting infected.

EDITED TO ADD:

Seems I spoke too soon, I updated and re-ran an AVG scan, and now I seem to be virus free, which means one of these scans I've done today seems to have worked and I guess I just missed it informing me of it or something. Bottom line is, I'm not concerned with why I'm virus free, just that I am. THanks for the help guys and gals, great bunch of links! :D
