You are sure the cable is correct? As I recall, the last time I did this (about 6 years ago) I went and bought a cable and that worked, but it has been so long that all I remember is that this has been possible since Windoze for Workgroups (3.11).

Sorry I can't help any more, maybe Wierd Harold or someone else knows the details, I just haven't had that much reason to do this very often; I transfer data between my desktop and laptop using CDRs.

I am just posting this out of general interest

I usually direct a lot of home networking and cable/DSL issue questions here. Informative site that anyone can read.

Todd,

I tried all the connections from seriel to parllel, finally just bit the bullet. Go to wal-mart and get two network cards and a "cross-over networking" cable and install them. If you want internet on both you need to upgrade the Win95 machine to at least 98 for "Internet Connection Sharing" I got it all for about $50-$60 Bucks. Well worth it. Any questions just ask and I'll be glad to help.

can't bite the bullet one putter is mine, one is my friends

his has a burner
mine has the porn

i need the porn over to the burner

cause this computer{mine} is calving and just about gone so i am trying to mover all the files i want over there

Quick Fix (faster too)

Install your hard disk in his puter. Burn away.

how hard is that and do i have to buy anything
It depends on you and your computer; you take your hard drive out of your computer and put it in his. You don't have to buy anything, but I think that you do have to set your hard drive to be a slave so the computer will boot correctly.

Forgive me, Todd

My consciousness is slipping..

I gotta sleep.....

All you need is a screwdriver and the knowledge....

The knowledge went out of the window about 15 minutes ago.

goodnioght and good luck.... sorry fading

Slaveing your HD

Alright, I might miss some stpes here so someone else chime in if need be:
You will need a screw driver most likely.
You may need an IDE ribbon cable if the one in either one of your computers does not have two hard drive ports or if his PC does not have two mother board "ports" to connect a hard drive too.
1. Turn power off to both PCs and unplug.
2. Take cover off both.
3. Touch the metal part of the PC EVERYTIME, before you touch anything else inside the guts of the thing. This is to discharge static electricty which can fry various delicate circuits inside.
4. Figure out how to disconnect and unmount your HD from your PC. This can be easy or hard depending on the make and model. You may want to hit the manufactures web siite before you begin to see if they have some guidelines.
5. Change the jumper settings on your HD to set it as the slave. Again you may want to hit the HD manufactures web site to get details on the exact jumper setting. (and what jumper are and where they are located on thi s model). Also most common manufactures write is somewhere on the HD label itself.
6. Attach your hard dirve to you friends system both the data "ribbon" cable, and a power cable from friends PCs internal power supply.
7. Don't bother putting the cover on yet cause you probably have something wrong (I always do) and you will want to be able to quickly access the HDs.
8. Boot friends machine.
9. Enter BIOS. (Sometimes called Setup) (F2, F10, or Ctrl-Alt-Enter or something similer)
10. Configure BIOS to expect 2 HDs usually by making secondary drive to auto. Again the BIOS could be by a number of makers so I cant tell you exactly. Also you can screw some stuff up in the BIOs.
11. And once you have done this, Vola! Your drive should show us as an additional drive letter.

Good luck!
10.
