I'm tring to post my picture here and it's in a BMP format. How would I convert it to a JPEG without having to buy any new software?

Open Microsoft Paint (it's under Programs, Accessories)

Open the pic in Paint and then Save as... you should be able to save as a gif or jpeg

I have an old program called 2SHOW, that opens up most conventional file types (.bmp, .jpg, .gif, .pic, etc...). It allows for viewing under different resolutions from 2 colors to 24 million colors, which is neat for its own purposes. However, it can convert any one file to another, usually with no problems, including gif. I find this nice since my version of Photoshop (also old), doesn't like to save in either .bmp or .gif. What can I say? I'm an old fuddy duddy at heart who's too cheap to put cash down for an upgrade or warez program. :D

But anyway, if you'd like, e-mail me (flawed_ethics@yahoo.com), and I'll e-mail you back with it. Oh, yeah, you need to be able to open a DOS shell to use it (MS-DOS prompt from Windows).

Good luck!

Thanks for the offer Flawed, but a friend pointed me to a freeware program that converts all sorts of files. It's called ImagoWeb. I found it at www.cnet.com if you want it. So far it seems pretty nice.

Check out iFanView. It's also freeware, and includes editing capability and already has the batch conversion facility. It's what ImagoWeb wants to be when it grows up.

Thanks for the suggestion Weird Harold. I'm getting it now :)
