I'm hoping that this isn't one that everyone already knows.

Suddenly, my Internet connection wouldn't let me get to Yahoo. The problem quickly got worse. I checked my DSL modem and saw that it wasn't showing any processing of Internet data. I called the AT&T help line and was told to try re-booting my DSL modem. I did and it worked!

How nice that you get a decent reply. I make the call to the so-called "help line" and get a foreign accent which I find almost indecipherable.

First thing I always do...because when you talk to a tech, they insist that you do it...is to reboot the modem, then the router (if you use one), then close the browser and open it again.

I've made a nice little sign, and taped it onto my modem to remind me of this. :)

Yes, I have had the same experience. However, I got the info that I needed from an automated voice response where the advice giver spoke good old American (West coast media style.) I'm not a fan of AT&T, but they came through for me, this time.

Computer hardware, for all its complexity, is an amazingly robust and reliable thing. It's only when we load software onto our computers that we run into trouble.
