My laptop bios doesn't work. At least I think that is the problem. Everytime it starts up the post screen comes on and then it stops. Everything goes blank. Any help? I'm hopeless when it comes to computers.

It sounds more like a memory or drive -- probably drive -- than a BIOS problem. If the BIOS was bad, you probably wouldn't even get the POST (power-on-self-test.)

I'd suggest taking it to a computer repair shop, but you might try booting from a floppy or CD first. If youcan boot from a floppy or CD, you can try to repair the HD with something like NOrton's Disk Doctor.

I would concur. I would also remind that, if there is important data on the hard drive, a main concern could be recovering the data from the HD. A good computer shop should be able to do the recovery if the recovery can be done.

Yes, I need to recover data from the hard drive. Gonna see if I can find a computer store that can do it for me.

But I don't think really care...they should just be interested in the ones and zeros that come off the disk.

That's the main reason I still haven't gotten around to taking my old laptop in. I want those pictures (and all my old AVs) back, but I don't want to have to look them in the eye when I go to pick it back up.
