Well I think I'm going to have to take the laptop in and have some work done on it. It runs just fine for a while then starts acting wonky. I'm not sure what the problem is but I just noticed that I can't hear the cooling fan. (Not that I listened for it before.) I also noticed I don't feel the amount of heat coming out of the side of the computer that I used to feel.

I wonder how much this is going to cost me.

If it's just a fan, between $40-70. They're probably going to want to clean it, too, 'cuz it's going to have a ton of dust built up in it.

Well that's a lot less than I expected. I wonder if they save and train the Dust Bunnies?

That's extra.

Maybe I should call the local place and get their price to have them do a bit of work on the system. I need a new keyboard put in and the possibility of the fan. (Cat barfed on the keyboard so now I have to use a plug in keyboard.)

On the other hand maybe I should look at getting a new Notebook?

It could just be clogged up. Blow on it, or use it in the fridge.:)

Kendo might be onto something. My son's keyboard was funky so I turned it upside down and shook all the crumbs out and now ALL the keys work.

As far as a new notebook, I think it would be smart to have them price the stuff you want done. New versus upgrading the old one depends on all the usual variables; how old, what you use it for, cost to upgrade memory/hard drive, etc...

Having said that, I recently drowned my computer and was told it would cost $400-600 to fix. It was getting long in the tooth so I decided to bite the bullet and bought a new, superior, feature rich laptop for $1080 including tax. And they threw in a case that sells for $80 to $114 depending on the site. It should be here next week.

You can buy cooling pads for $25 (or more, if you buy ones with USB hubs built in depending on your connection needs). The pads have several fans that draw heat away from bottom of laptop which is supposed to help, not sure myself as I use mine on a tabletop (perhaps laps block vents?)
