This morning on start up my computer started windows installer & pop up a window that was labeled:

Microsoft Office 200 Sr-1 Small Business

Please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office 200 S-1

Then it pop up an error msg:

Internal Error 2908, Please contact support?


When I booted down last night I didn't have any problems & I didn't install or mess with my setting yesterday? Now Outlook, WOrd & Excel will not run correctly.

Tried the repair & detect & it said everything load fine???

Maybe it's looking for an on-line update, but can't connect to the "web"?

By the way - I'm a computer idiot, so take my question with a grain of salt...

Im assumeing you have Office and or Small bussiness installed and was runninng ???

I hope..?

sounds like a dll is corrupt.. but if you have the office disk then it should be no problem.

is it Xp.. or 2000?

Internal Error 2908 often occurs because of registry problems.

(Sometimes running RegClean or similar product can do this becase it cleans up the microsoft installer tracks, then causing the installer to think that it needs to run again.)

If you are Win98, run "scanreg /fix" and if that doesn't work, run "scanreg /restore" and see if you can restore a registry from an eariler date.

For WinME or XP/2K use System Restore in Programs / Accessories / System Tools,

or hold down the Cntl key while you boot to get the options menu and select "Last known good configuration"

If not of this wworks, try logging in as a different user. Here's an extract from M$:

Method 2: Run Setup Under a Different Profile

If the profile under which you are logged on is damaged (corrupted), you may be able to run Setup under a different user profile. If you log on under a different profile, and you are able to install Office, you may need to delete and recreate the problematic profile. Otherwise, you may encounter the same problem when you try to install Office when you are logged back on under that profile.

NOTE: If you have profiles turned on and a per-user Start menu, each user who has an existing profile on Windows 95 or Windows 98 must run Setup for Office. This default user profile includes all of the registry information and shortcuts necessary to start Office programs.

Method 3: Turn Off User Profiles Before Running Setup

On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click the Passwords Control Panel.
Click the User Profiles tab. Click All users of this computer use the same preferences and desktop settings.
Click OK. Restart the computer if prompted to do so.
Install Office 2000.

Thaks for the replies, I think I got it all back up & running. I ended up doing the following:

Click Start and then click Run.
In the Open box, type MSCONFIG and then click OK.
Click Selective startup.
Click to clear each check box on the Startup selection menu, and then click OK.
Restart your computer.
Click Start and then click Run.
In the Open box, type SCANREG /FIX and then click OK.
When the process has finished, your computer automatically restarts.
Insert the Office 2000 CD-ROM.
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Add/Remove Programs, and then click Install.
Repeat steps 1 and 2.
On the Selective startup menu, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and software, and then click OK.

What a way to spend a Friday, instead of getting work done I have messed with my pc all.
