This is in response to Uncle_Daves disgusting post concerning at what age you could penetrate a girl without hurting her (ie, get away with it undetected).

It comes on the back of Wilfs post about drugging his wife for the purpose of raping her and sending out pics. (I know it was a "ploy" John1965, but still...)

I know that the vast majority of unregistered posters are just as nice and sane as the rest of us (and I appologise profusely to them), but because of a few SICK individuals I propose compulsory registration before anyone can post to the board.

Literotica has a free Email Service, so if you want to keep your sex life and your regular life separate it is not a problem, and it's not like you'd have to even check your messages. It would just be a way to track those with malicious intent.

Alternately, perhaps it would be possible to APPLY to be registered? No contact details would necessarily be given out, just kept on file.

The only thing is, is it better to allow sick people to post annonomously so that we at least know they are thinking of doing something and either talk them out of it, or track them solely through their IP address?

I agree about the self-policing bit... Manu and I have always been in favor of fewer rules rather than more rules. Because of the nature of discussions on this board, I know that there are a few meek ones out there with big, important questions who would never, ever register to ask them. This doesn't mean their input is less valuable. I'd rather have the anonymous option open so that everyone has the opportunity to ask sexual questions and share sexual experiences comfortably.

Yes, this does mean the occasional wacko will post something stupid. The more receptive the atmosphere is to freaks, the more they will come. Honestly, I think we have way fewer than most boards, mainly because the intelligent, thoughtful people who come here won't stand for that sort of thing.

The Uncle_Dave post was definitely in questionable taste, and the users made that clear. I think it is more helpful for people to see a post like that posted and subsequently chastised by others than for it to be removed. This sends a message out to others about what is acceptable here and what is not.

I'm rambling... I'm going to grab a catnap before working on tonight's update. Sorry if this makes no sense..

Hmmm...sorry to disappoint ya, LL, but I've got the free version of this BB software over at my little site and apparently it doesn't support smilies.... Although you could still do the deal with the tags, it is a UBB board. So at least that's not my fault. And MADDOG would be happy there, the free version of the board requires everyone that posts to register. earthgoddess, it was a great big pain in the ass to post that thing. I had to do the whole thing by trial and error (mostly error) and I really just got lucky that most of it worked out the first time.

Well the idea of requiring people to register to post has been around for a looong time but as easy as it is to whip up an alternate identity why bother. The main thing registering does is stop people from posting under your name.

Anyways, back in the days of the Soviet Union, Soviet citizens carried an internal passport which the were required to have when travelling, much like you or I would have a passport if we went to a foreign country. More or less it was just an obscure shot at MADDOG for advocating to Laurel and Manu that they should use Big Brotherish tactics to control some of the morons that post on the board.

But I think it might have gone right over his head.

I got it Lasher. I know exactly what you meant, but I wasn't advocating "Big Brotherish" tactics at all. All that I was suggesting was a compulsory Email registration. And I still think it's a good idea, but Laurel is right. Better to let the fools post.

The reason I suggested APPLYING, is that I have a friend who runs a website for our circle of friends where he requires everyone to register with him personly. (Only because the message board is intended as an online meeting place for his Real World Friends.) It works well and noone thinks that is big brotherish.
