I'm still not sure how you can have a wind speed of -1.1...

yep that's minus 1.1, but that's what it was yesterday for one of the track heats.

And whilst I'm on the subject (which I'm not I know!) how come Cameroon is competing. It used to be a divided country with West Cameroon (which was once part of Southern Nigeria) being the English speaking side and East Cameroon being the French speaking side.

But I thought they merged years ago. I know the UK has an Embassy there (which denotes a foreign country) and not a High Commission (which denotes a Commonwealth country.

Re: minus wind speed,

p_p_man, I think that indicates the wind flow in the opposing direction to the runners and jumpers. That is, if a runner or jumper has the wind at their back, assisting slightly, then it's considered 'plus'. (I think sometimes world records are discounted if the wind assist is too strong).

If the wind is flowing against the direction of the atheletes, hindering them slightly then it's considered 'minus.' :)

Re: Cameroon, I'm afraid I don't know about that one.

Current Medal Tally

Canada 3g 3s 1b
England 2g 3s 1b
Australia 3g 1s 5b
Kenya 1g 1s 0b
I expect Aussies topping the table in the end.
I predict that freak-of-nature Thorpedo to win multiple gold in swimming pool.
I want more boxing.

Aussies topping the medals table *slapping forehead* aaahrg I hope not (although it is a likely outcome I must admit) we'd never hear the end of it until next time lol. They do have a strong squad in the aquatic events, granted (as usual I guess). However, i'm not so sure if they have a strong squad when it comes to track & field.

That Thorpe guy is amazing, bloody hell, his feet are like the length of a diving board. He's definitely one of the X- Men or something. Yes I agree, unless something goes drastically wrong, he'll win a clutch of gold medals. :)

I've now found out that Cameroon is quite a recent member of the of the Commonwealth, they joined in 1995. Apparently, now they do have a High Commission.

When you pointed that, out I also noticed that Mozambique was also competing. They also joined the Commonwealth in 1995.

St. Kitts & Neavis get their first gold in the games when Kim Collins wins the mens 100m final.

Today Australian women marathon runners win gold, silver and bronze, a fabulous acheivement.

I see there is another thread about the Commonwealth games. There's no point in having two I guess.

The other thread was started before mine so I'll let this one die, if michaelmt1 should wish it, otherwise I might as well carry on posting for now.

A brilliant run by Paula Radcliffe...

Gold in the 5000 metres and just a second outside world record.

Completely destroyed the opposition...
