Commercials at the movies

As an avid movie-goer I'm noticing a new trend: damn near 20 minutes of commercials before the previews even start! And they're usually those pretentious, head scratching commercials that leave you wondering what the hell the product was. If I wanted to watch commercials I'd stay home and look at TV.

It's the price you pay for wanting to get a good seat.

Hi.

It's bad marketing if you ask me. I'm remembering the products advertized and marking them down on my list of things not to buy just because they marred my movie-going experience.

That'll show 'em!

Consider this, wouldn't it be even more expensive going to see a movie if there weren't any commercials??

When you're paying $13 (Canadian) to see a movie, I can't imagine it getting more expensive.

Holy Cow, Batman!

Just wait and buy the DVD, Right?

They try to gloss it over by making the commercials look like short films. The problem is they suck. Especially the ones for concessions and Moviephone.

And that ridiculous Volkswagon commercial irks me too. You never even see the car. What a waste of time.

Commercials

See, the problem with commercials is that people hate them, and they ignore them when possible. I have taken to going to movies 20 minutes late for the express purpose of missing the commercials, that and if I miss a few of the previews, then it won't bother me at all.

This will cause the advertising agency to adjust to my new behavior by spreading the commercials throughout the movie. Since commercial breaks would be unacceptable in some cases, they will resort to displaying product information within the content of the movie itself, kind of a subliminal message. Whenever an actor needs a drink (regardless of the fact that he is in an oasis in the desert or not), it will be a Coke.

Oh, wait. They are already doing that.

i hate the commercials

they piss me off

but even more annoying was the "america the beautiful" they played before the flick for the better part of last year <shudder> it was disgusting.

At least Coca~Cola doesn't have that annoying little girl with the voice of Jack Palance. That was just bad.

They already have. Ironically, those are the best commercials. The first time I was actually fooled into thinking I was seeing a preview for a hype new action picture until the end when some narrator told me I wouldn't be a real man until I joined the Marines.

Oh, and talking about waving around American flags...

The whole thing about American patriotism last year was just bonkers. I mean it's good to try to pull the country together after a disaster, but easy on the American propaganda! It especially bothered me when all I saw were American flags everywhere in Canada (nothing against Americans...half my family lives in the States, and I'm the Best-Man at my friend's wedding...an American).

Ever hear about PsyOps (Psychological Operations)...an American propaganda program started after the raping we endured in the Vietnam War. Well, it's alive and well in all parts of the world. Can't believe a single thing you see and/or hear from American media anymore.

Now back to the topic at hand...yeah, commercials suck.

When I visited Canada I was tickled at the amount of patriotism everybody had. Regular citizens walk around wearing touristy-looking T-shirts with the maple leaf on them. And Canada Dry actually seems to be the official drink! :D

Go to Canada right now

Why is America the beautiful disgusting?

Why are Army ads wrong to show?

You haven't been to watch a movie in London then. There you pay 24 $ Canadian (10£, 16US$) if you want to see a movie in the evening, you can get it a bit cheaper in the afternoon though. Here in Denmark we pay about the same amount as you do.

You mean the one where they are going 120+ in the street with an onboard camera?

Or how about that Val Kilmer camera commercial.

Or the army one on top of a mountain?

The Val Kilmer one sucks bad!

Another problem is they keep showing the same ones over and over. You already know which commercials you're going to see before you sit down. They switch 'em every six months or so.
