How many comments must I accumulate before any new comments get posted in under a week?

Laurel probably won't answer as she's too busy running the site. A PM might get some results, but I can answer your question.

There is no minimum number of comments before new comments get posted. In general, comments get posted when the site updates daily. That can be one comment or many depending upon how many readers have left a comment. Most comments will be delayed so Laurel can review the comment to weed out personal attacks and the like. I'm not sure when that is in your time zone, but here in the CST time zone, it happens sometime after 6 PM. The actual site update happens at about 1 or 2 AM EST.

If a reader has consistently made comments on stories that are at least somewhat constructive, apparently their comments are posted as soon as they make them. I get a few like that, but mostly my comments come in a string when the site updates.
