 I know. And You're Welcome.

Thanks again for the review, Falling. It was a first chapter for sure. I just hope that doesn't repel too many readers.

Awww thanks, Sev. Poor Jenny Jackson. The personality and mouth is really very much me. The story came from... I don't know where. Some of the feedback has been interesting. One guy sent me some feedback saying he lived right near the setting of the party

It's a fun story that has much of what halloween really is to me in it.

Category: Erotic Horror

Review:

This is essentially a Gothic tale of a blind date from Hell. Well, Heaven at first for the poor, unlucky SOB. He goes from virginal geek to human sacrifice. Very dark and yet hot at the same time (and I'm not even a snuff fan).

Thanks for the review!
I liked your story too and rated it a 5 accordingly ;)

Oops...

Sorry, I didn't mean to start a firestorm...

I'm new to the politics of literotica and trying to feel my way around without stumbling over someone or stepping on any feet... After I made my comment, I realized I shouldn't have done it where I did it... Sorry...

So, volunteers chose what they review? Jenny says that if I chose to write in categories that are not commonly reviewed, I should volunteer and become a reviewer. How does this get my stories reviewed? It just leaves me less time to write, which I love.

She also states she's written 12 stories/4 reviews? I've written 40/1 review. How can you not call that favoritism?

Oh, well, don't mean to be argumentative...

Guess that's the way things are and I can either try to become part of the "in" crowd, or just hang around outside enviously looking in...

Cheers...

There are 9 reviewers not counting the others that voluteer there time too that reviews. On most days ther is 1 reviewer a day some days we share. Then you take into consideration how many Authors there are that write and how many stories are posted everyday. If we spent all our free time reviewing EVERY story we would not have time to write our own. Yes we review friends sometimes. We also review stories that catch our eye. Like it was said before. If you are not happy with our reviews add some of your own!

Welcome to the AH, Baron... :cathappy:

Reviewers do pick and choose what they want to review... that it's a little biased is inevitable... we do get to know other authors in the AH and we tend to look at each other's work... I, for one, won't review it JUST because it's an AH author... I review it if the story grabs me... I try to pick out new authors as well to encourage... sometimes it's just a matter of personal preference (some of us like some categories more than others) and sometimes it's a matter of sequels (some of us don't like to review Ch. 8 if we haven't read Ch's 1-7... I tend to skip them, I admit)

I'm sorry you felt slighted, though... there's no need to be looking in from outside... there's plenty of room inside!

I might...

So, do you have to meet a board of your peers to become an editor?

If I became an editor, I would just go where, to choose the stories? New story cat? And then, just write review and post it?

Another question...

I assume that the reviewers have a different pseudonym to keep from getting flamed by authors who didn't like the review?

If so, where does one get another pseudonym?

Sorry, but like I said, new to the game...

To review a New story all you have to do is go to the new storie section find on you like read it and then go to the New story review thread and tell us what you thought about it. Please include the title authors name catagory your rating and link.

as far as fake names most here use the same name they write under as when they review stories.

I’m just going to save this post and repost it whenever this question comes up. :D

Red’s way of Reviewing. . .

1. Go to the New Story Review Page (Normally Saturdays only - sometimes a fill in day)

2. Scroll down until the day before’s last story is and then slowly scroll back up or go back to the top and slowly scroll back down.

3. As I scroll. . .I find a story title and description line that catches my eye, even if it is previous chapter stories.

4. Click and read.

5. Vote

6. Click Author’s Profile and find out if they are a New Writer or an Established writer.

7. Right out a review on Wordpad under the titles... New Writer, Established writer. . .

8. Return to the List and scroll from where I stopped and look for another Title and Description line until I find one that catches my eye.

9. Repeat Step 4 - 8 until I reach the end of the list. . .(this results usually in 8 stories, unless the selection isn’t eye catchy to me)

10. Scroll down slowly for Reviewer’s Work - Because I feel a reviewer deserves to be read too.

11. Do step 7 and set the review under the title: Reviewer’s Work.

12. Scroll back through the list and see if there is what I have formed for my own pleasure.... a “Personal Pick” - - this is a category where I openly admit on the thread I will be bias because it is an author I like.

13. Do step 7 and set the review under the title: Personal Pick

14. Decide on a category . . .

15. Go to that category and click the “Story Spinner”

16. Read the story.

18. Go to the Author Profile and find out when the story was approved by Lit.

19. Write all this information and my review under the title. . .”Blast from the Past.”

20. Copy and paste to the New Story Review

* I do not feel I am playing favoritism to anything or anyone with any review except my Personal Pick. If the title doesn’t catch my interest then I don’t read it. Titles like: Sister Loves Sucking Daddy. . .okay there is the plot and the story. . .or Pussy and Cock Meet in the Park. . .again. . .there is the story. . .Titles that make you go hmmmm. . . What Passes Between... I don’t know . . . What does pass between what? Or . . . Twisted Wishes? Walking a Thin Line? Reaching the Pits of Snakes and Glowing Green... I mean. . .those are or would be titles that make me stop and think for a minute. . .Hmmm. . .*

We aren't editors... or I'm not, I don't know about everyone else.

I am a volunteer, nothing special, just a gal who likes to read and review. :)

If you want to review, just pick a story that you wish to draw attention too, read it and post your feelings on it. A link to the story is VERY helpful and I wish we'd all do that, but it isn't necessary, we all have the search option on lit.

I get flamed, I get disagreed with, I get one bombed, and I get my "You've been mentioned...." deleted from author's public comment sections, and that is fine. . .I simply take it and rant when it builds up and get over it.

So getting trashed comes with the volunteering of it. I know people enjoy my work, but I love writing to much to let one's kill my pleasure and I enjoy reviewing to much to stop doing it. :)

Trick or Tryst

Erotic Horror

Ooooh what a tale of revenge served cold did has Minxie done! I couldn't help but smile from hear to hear at the treatment of the cheating lying bastard. :D Every woman who's ever been cheated on and hurt by an asshole like that has, at least once, dreamed of doing something like that to the guy. Minxie's tale allows those women to 'feel' what it's like to be avenged.

Oh yeah, I have to talk about the story too, huh? The writing was perfect, the execution impeccable, the voice enthralling and the character (Patience) came to life right in front of the reader's eyes. With light stroke of the brush, Minxie drew a story worthy of every women who's ever had a man hurt and cheat on her.

I just wanted to thank you, LC, for taking the time to review my story.
I'm honored and very pleased you enjoyed it. :rose:

Nope, everybody reviews under their own name, and almost everybody has suffered for it too.

Yet another of the wonderful dividends of volunteering to review new stories one day every week, your whole catalog getting one bombed because someone didn't like a review or didn't get reviewed. Some have even been lucky enough to have their personal friend follow them around and just keep on paying them for their time and effort with 1s on each and every new story they put out on the site, even going so far as to search their favorites and sig links and drop one bombs on people they know too.

Then there's all those wonderful PMs and emails full of poorly spelled four letter words.

It's a wonder there isn't a line around the block to review new stories, when it is such a lucrative endevor.

In all seriousness, you *have* one review. There are upwards of 70 stories out a day, and perhaps a dozen get reviewed, on a good day. How many hundreds of authors haven't been reviewed once? Would you even know about this thread ( or even care about the board? ) if you hadn't found the PC noting your review here in the AH?

My review method is this.

I start at the top of the new stories page. I scan through the stories.

I check category first. Some I won't touch, Incest, Fetish and Gay Male to be precise. Sorry, these stories don't turn my crank. I can't be fair to them.

Then I check the title and tag line. Dull and misspelled I will not read. If the authour can't be arsed to get these right, I'm willing to bet that they won't get much else right.

If the title and tag line give away the story, I don't read it.

If the title and tag line do catch my interest I'll probably read it.

I'll then check the authour. If it's someone I know and like, which is very likely but not certain to be a fellow AHer, I will read it.

Once I start reading, I'll bail if the story is dull. I won't review it. Dull means written without emotion, proper grammar or spelling. Dull means uninteresting characters. Dull means I can't follow the story. One personal quibble is I find pain dull. Too many BDSM stories are about inflicting pain to practically the exclusion of all else. So I bail on these stories. Outright rape makes me bail as well. Although admittedly the line between non-consent and rape is personal.

If I finish the story and I thought it was less than good I'll either send an e-mail to the authour if I thought the story was salvageable. Or ignore it if not.

If I finish the story and liked it I'll write a review.

Is this a biased process, yes. If someone has a problem with it it's their problem.

When I do step in to do one or two, this is what I do.

I scan the list for Sci-Fi, Horror, and Non-Human first. That's my forte' and I feel I can give those sort of stories the best shake.

I click on every one of those, paying zero attention to the author, tagline, whether it's a chapter story, the title, or anything else. The story has a while to grab me and keep me reading. If I like it, it will get reviewed. If I don't it won't. If a story isn't good enough to rate a 4 from me, I won't post it in the thread, and most often won't leave a PC either.

If it was okay, but I just had a few issues with it, I'll send a private feedback addressing those, and not review it. I usually don't even put a vote on it. The number of threes I've ever handed out can be counted on one hand with fingers to spare. I just don't vote if it doesn't rate a 3, even in a cat where I believe I know what is good and what stinks. If it didn't do anything for me at all, I just back-click.

After that, I follow pretty much the same procedure as everyone else, looking for interesting titles and taglines. Even though I write a lot of reluctance in my own stories, they just don't "work" for me in a real world setting. Just an oddity with me, and I usually will skip those.

If I don't find anything interesting, I start looking for familiar author names, and yes, most of those will be from the AH. They also will probably be good stories that will keep me reading and are likely to get a review. There is a high degree of quality writing coming out of the AH.

Hi Baron :)

If you're looking for the Editor's Forum it's HERE. :D It's my little domain and I'm quite proud of it.

We're ALWAYS looking for fresh blood and good people to edit other people's stories and you're welcome to come and join us if you so desire.

One thing though, you don't need an editor to review the stories and you certainly don't need to be a reviewer to edit stories. Both are not mutually inclusive. :)

You already know where the review thread is so I won't insult your intelligence by pointing out to you. If you find a story that appeals to you, please don't be shy and post your review in the aforementionned thread. I'm pretty sure that nobody will complain and say that you're stepping on anyone's toes.

To get a new pseudo, you simply have to register a new identity, dear. Then you'd have a brand new name that you could use to do your reviews if you want. You'll notice that most of the reviewers don't use an alt (pseudo) to do our reviews. We stand by our reviews and to hell with the trolls, (people who piss and shit on someone else just for the sake of it) but it's your choice and you can use an alt or not.

You're very welcome, Minxie.

I truly enjoyed your story and I thought the punishement was really befitting the 'crime'. :D

Thanks to SelenaKitten

Selena,

Thanks for reviewing my little Halloween story, "A Grave Matter." I am doubly flattered when someone I greatly respect reviews and comments on something I've written. You're the Best!

Just to add my $.02 here...

I know quite a few of the reviewers, I've written a review myself, yet I've never been reviewed. So what. It'll be nice and I'll be very excited when it eventually happens, but I'm not going to sit here and whine about it. I'll just write more and hope one of my stories will grab someone's attention one of these days.

No big deal. Calm down, there is no secret society of reviewers. Be happy that you did get a review. :rose:

Wow, it's really interesting to hear how people review! :)

My process... I go through the whole list, count how many (if it's a full page, it's 75 stories) and note that. Then, starting at the bottom (and Scouries in correct, BDSM and Nonconsent tend to congregate there!) I click on each story... you have exactly one paragraph to catch my attention. If a story catches my attention, I make a note to go back and read it. If it doesn't I move on to the next. I pay no attention to author or tagline or category. I start every single story. If you don't get me in the first paragraph (MAYBE two) then I'm done, moving on to the next. When I have my list of stories, I settle in and start to read. If I get to the end and I liked it, I will mention it. If I get to the end and I didn't like it, for whatever reason, it won't be reviewed. I don't rate stories and I don't review things I wouldn't recommend.

That's pretty much it!

Thanks for the message. I hope his power is up now. I just got up and saw this message, it's 7am here, so I would hope he's got the power back. I'll work on some reviews today. (He is Wednesday's reviewer right? (Blushes. . . so many have dropped and come back and then left and been replaced, I forget. . . . I think it is time for us to post a new schedule.)
