Coming out 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Thankfully things have moved on because of course now we go through HRT and surgeries to gain access to women's restrooms to assault them.
Oh for sure! I totally don't mind all the horrible comments, loss of family an friends, the expense of transition and everything else that comes with it, just for the chance to loiter in women's toilets and locker rooms! / sarcasm
(just in case some might have thought me serious.....)

Pockets girl! Lots of functional deep pockets!
Here is my fav hiking skirt I've found on line so far....
https://www.macabiskirt.com/
Another one I'm checking is this one....
https://lightheartgear.com/collections/hiking-skirt
I like the macabi skirt better though I think. Like all the options it has, and some awesome colors 😊
Agreed - the Macabi is lovely and looks too good to take through puddles. I didn't check but the fabric looks like drill so it would stand up to it. You didn't mention the hitch belt as well as pockets! Hmmm... thinks

OMG! I just listened to Johnny Cash's song 'Hurt' and the lyrics def hit close!
Before my coming out, when I was struggling and kinda lost this says how I felt much of the time.
"I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real"

"What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end"

For me the pain and hurting myself gave me a chance to feel something. I had been living FLAT for so long, even hurting seemed better.
I know others have had similar times in their lives, and it is heartbreaking! Having been through that makes me want to do whatever I can to help :rose:

It’s really too early to know if it’s a widening trend, but I wonder; with the current political backlash against transgender rights, are more people (especially young people) presenting in non gender-conforming ways rather than identifying as transgender?

I know some young people who have recently been presenting as cross-gender at school who still identify as cis. I’ve also recently seen some young people at their public jobs doing the same thing.

No pride pins, no pronoun buttons, just people being themselves without adhering to social expectations. It seems like it deflates many of the transphobic talking points, and it certainly avoids most of the anti-transgender legal challenges.

With all of the hateful anti-trans legislation is this possibly a growing social adaptation?

You mean they're flying under the fascist radar? That would make sense, particularly if they can see themselves in other gender questioners. I like the idea that they are truly subverting the binary, but I'm quite happy where I am!

These musically inspired reports needs to be in your Coming Out thread - I read this in the Guardian

Hearing Kate Bush helped me come out as a trans woman, and song I've listened to often.

But the story I read this morning, with Boys Keep Swinging

How David Bowie helped me

Eek - better dash x
Bowie is someone I am kinda sorta familiar with and liking the stuff of theirs I've listened to. Kate Bush on the other hand is new to me so I dialed up a few YT....loving her unique singing style, specially 'Running up that Hill', still need to go listen to 'The Sensual World' the cut your link referred to.

If I was to pick out any music that stood out to me pre-transition first HAS to be Lady Gaga 'Born this Way' but also somewhere along in life I heard the band the Kinks doing a song called 'Lola', I remember being really confused....still tho, it stayed with me for a long time!

In my humble opinion...lotta value in any "subverting the binary". I feel like I'm still actively doing that because I don't have the ability to 'pass' at this point.
I do often confuse some that see me, and I am pretty sure some see me as femme, but I enjoy pushing peoples perception 😉
I just this week started doing my hormones via injection. I've read that many trans folk feel injecting brings more and quicker results, so I'll see I guess where I end up!
Still tho, I'm happy, bubbly, giggly thrilled to be as I am :rose:

'Lola' is actually a very sweet story, I've often wondered what inspired Ray Davies to write it.

Bowie was a musical and cultural force of his own. He changed personas and outfits, was never afraid to experiment, and did it with beauty and grace. His music often brings me to tears.

Because trans people are currently being used as scapegoats by right wing politicians, there is probably some of this social adaptation taking place for survival purposes, just as there is under any oppressive government.

However, most people know that scapegoating is a cheap political trick to get votes by appealing to the reptilian portion of of the human brain, invoking fear and the fight-or-flight response. This latest round of scapegoating will subside, because the human spirit is much greater than the fight-or-flight response.

The control freaks will lose in the long run.

Yeah, I think for some it’s a bit of a “fuck you” to the fascists, kind of like a punk thing but without (or with) the goth. For others it’s just survival.

With this in mind, check out this high school dress code policy from Houston, Texas:

🤔🙂

Student Dress Code

Heights High School Dress Code
The leadership and SDMC at Heights High School respects students’ desire to express themselves in the way they dress. All students are also expected to respect the school community by dressing in a manner appropriate for a school environment. Student attire should facilitate participation in learning as well as the health and safety of students and the adults who supervise them.
HHS Allowable Dress Requirements
1. All students must have a student ID badge worn on a lanyard and visible at all times.
2. Students must dress in clothing that includes both a shirt with pants, shorts or a skirt or the equivalent (a dress).
3. Clothing must cover areas from one armpit to the other. Tops must have shoulder straps. Shirts must come to the top of the pants at the waist at minimum and shorts/skirts/dresses should be long enough to cover to approximately the mid-thigh.
4. Clothing must cover undergarments.
5. Shoes must be worn at all times and must be safe for a school environment (pajamas, house shoes, or slippers shall not be worn).
6. Hats and other headwear must allow the face to be visible. Hoodies must allow the student’s face and ears to be visible.
7. Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities, including physical education, science labs, and other classes where unique hazards or specialized attire or safety gear is required.
Non-allowable Dress

Most schools in UK are based around a uniform blazer ( jacket ) then conventional accessories, no different to the ones you've quoted.

I think goth kids have always played with gender and it provides a perfect camouflage for questioning kids. Goth's always look like a scarecrow with eyeliner ;). For sure gender is an established variation to the goth style now.

I started to write more about trans visibility but tbh it's too depressing.

This talk of dress and all the variations of expression make me remember some stuff I read not long ago.
Back around the Stonewall time in NYC apparently men and women were required by law to wear at least 3 items of clothes considered appropriate to their gender.
The cops could and often did arrest those that didn't!
I've been waiting to hear this current crop of fascists try to bring that law back on the books.

Another item, I read a book, don't remember the title right now....it was written about a woman growing up in East Berlin, around the 70's-80's, and how she and her friends would push the boundaries in that repressive society.
She eventually ended up jailed as basically a non-desirable member of society and when she was released she wasn't able to work or even function in that system.
She talks about there being a entire street culture of punk/goth types like her in the eastern part of Germany and how they lived.

I guess the point here is just examples of how political systems try to force us into being good little compliant droids....

Musk and Bezos would love to see that level of oppression return. Lets face it - ICE is basically the Stasi

I mentioned how I publicly 'came out' by posting a small clip on my IG. Here it is. I was soooo nervous clicking the post button!
Although when I did, it was a huge weight off of me! I was totally ready to take whatever happened.

"This whole world is wild at heart and weird on top" ... wise words from dear departed David Lynch.

Clothes weren't a motivation for me to transition. I know they can be for many folks, but I think wearing them coincides with the age of raging puberty hormones. I grew up in a female household, so being a girl was quite normal to me along with the clothes - they weren't a token of my gender.

I wear summer dresses and skirts when the occasion arises and I love having that choice, but my lifestyle means that jeans are more appropriate. You can still wear cute tops and be feminine in jeans and besides, a whole generation of women fought to make pants legal!
I grew up in a female household too and shared a Jack and Jill bathroom with my older sister. I would fill in with her cheerleaders if one was missing and became close to all her girls. I had a supportive mother that I didn't know was bi until I turned 18. Being, seeing them naked was normal to us.

I never really came out, I just hung out with some wild fun girls and we were already making out an age way too young to mention here. But I was also very much into guys, so I guess therr wasn't much need to come out. If you asked me at 18, I would have said i was straight but "fooled around with girls sometimes."

In college I started thinking of myself as bisexual but it wasn't a big revelation.

I get that. When you're living the life, meeting people, finding new lovers, the last thing on your mind is what badge you should wear - that's for other people to do and very often stigmatise you with it.... their loss.

And, I'll add to that with another observation.

Fulfillment in life comes from within, not from the judgment of others. Love and creativity put us in good company if we refuse to hide our light under a bushel basket.
