I was talking to a friend earlier who was upset, and we got on the discussion of comfort foods.

Her favorite was ice cream.

I would have to say that my favorite would be my mom's homemade chicken noodle soup with those really thick white noodles that you buy frozen... Just below that on the list would be frozen custard :)

So.. what's your favorite?

a pot of pinto beans with fried potatos and onions on the side and a big slab of cornbread dripping with butter and grape jelley...

A bowl of linguini in white clam sauce from Umbertto's in Little Italy. Just make sure you sit near the door.

Yummy...

My favorite comfort food is Graham crackers and cake frosting (any flavor). or a Whopper from BK.

hehe sounds good with the exception of cornbread with jelly on it. Never heard of that. I only eat cornbread if it is lousiana style though lol. I love the sweet kind

a bacon sandwich, Dusty. Smoked back bacon and butter inside.

with coffee

You are wicked tonight - full of suggestions.

Wow.. I haven't had that since I was little... That brings back memories!

My homemade potato soup and hard rolls.

Or, good scotch, whichever's handier.

I find it interesting though how people's comfort foods very from snack like stuff to sweets to full meals or just drinks.. You know?

Seriously Dusty, here's an easy recipe for you

LINGUINE WITH CLAM SAUCE

2 teaspoons butter
1/2 onion, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 6 1/2-ounce can chopped clams, drained, juices reserved
3 tablespoons dry white wine
3 tablespoons cream
3 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
dash of hot red pepper flakes

6 ounces linguine

Melt butter in heavy medium nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and sauté until translucent, about 8 minutes. Mix in clams and stir 1 minute. Add wine and bring to boil. Stir in reserved juices from clams, cream and parsley and simmer 2 minutes to mellow flavors. Season to taste with salt and pepper and red pepper flakes.

Meanwhile, cook linguine in large pot of rapidly boiling salted water until tender but still firm to bite. Drain. Add pasta to clam mixture in skillet. Bring to simmer, stirring constantly. Transfer to bowls and serve immediately.

Serves 2

Some foods are naturally relaxing by nature of their consistency or how we eat them.

Ice cream, marshmallows, lollipops are foods that relax and are , believe it or not, recommended to children who are stressed or a bit distracted.

Also, things that require sipping through a straw are considered to be "slow down" foods.

Other times comfort foods are based upon our history, our memories, our experiences. My mother's mashed potatoes and gravy is better than a month's worth of therapy!

:D

Oh...my comfort food....chocolate ice cream. I am going to get a pint now. Yummy!

Thank you, I will have to try that when my dear one comes to visit me perhaps. I know she likes Italian. :) and what kind of wine would recommend to go with that?

I've really got the munchies now - but the kids will know I'm raiding the fridge. and it's too far away at the other end of the barn - because I live in a barn - and it's cold.

Mashed Taters, with sour cream, and cream cheese. (not for the dieters) Add a touch of minced garlic and TONS of butter, and it's even better.

Lo

Whenever I get sick and wont anything my mom would always make me mashed potatoes and gravy and I would eat that and only that lol. My last roommate figured that out too. So would I would get sick she would go to KFC and buy potatoes and gravy. When I had whooping cough back in August I was sick for 3 months, and I lived off of that and popsicles lol

It's better than you might think. When I don't have time to peel potatos, I'll do this quick recipe, it's hard to tell that you are using instant spuds, by the final taste.

Any brand spuds roughly 13.75 oz box, the WHOLE thing
3½ cups water
2½ cups of milk
1 stick of butter/margerine
16 oz of sour cream
8 oz of cream cheese
salt or garlic salt to taste
if no garlic salt, then minced garlic if you have that

The ultimate comfort meal for me would be - Meat loaf with lots of red tomato sauce, mashed potatos, mac and cheese, and applesauce. Ice tea to drink, with a wedge of lime sqeezed into it.

Lo
