If one where a bird, flying above the foothills of the mountions as they often do, close to a small goat-herding village that smelled suspicously like dung, you would see two men begining to acend the game trial upwards, the light glow of the sun passing just overhead. These men where different in many ways; One was a slight fellow, but tall, dressed in a sand brown shirt and a matching set of trousers, his rich brown hair running long and free down his shoulders. The other, a stout sort of fellow, cladden in mail with a couple of plates strapped to his back, everything cut short so that he seemed nearly hairless, and a sharped hailberd in his hand. An odd pair, yes, but a pair none the less, and they where both young and strong in their own ways
"Bothers Hark," the stout man blustered in a deep tone that constently sounded as though he was yelling. "Could you stop that blasted whistling?"
The slight man looked over to the stout one, a silly little song coming from his lips, and smiled as he stopped. "Of course, dwarf sir," his voice was a more mellow, yet convincing tone, a magicl quitly to it, if you will. "I'd never dream of making the man who can chop me in half angery." Of course, the dwarf was always angery, but he knew he was safe, at least until theyd' rescued to the princess.
The two of them had been visting the capital of Arrland not so long ago, a small but plesent kingdom built around a shining lake. They had both also, intrestingly enough, come into the same tavern, although both for different reasons (Hark had wanted to purchase some lodgings, but he'd never asked what the dwarf wanted), and by lucky enough to hear a decree from the town crier. "Whom soever should rescue the princess from the dragon atop the mountions in the west shall receive her hand in marriage, as well as the right to sucession of the kingdom."
The talk in the tavern went to that immediatly.
Of course, many warriors had tried to slay dragons in the past, as had many mages, but all had failed. Dragons where not things you slaied, but creatures you dominated. Now, the dragon's guerdians, those you had to slay. This ment that neather mage nor warrior could do it alone, which had caused the two of them, half-drunk on a combination of equal parts glory and beer, to take the quest together. Now, weeks later, they stood before the great moutions, prepared to go in.
The dwarf would get the princess and the kingdom, and Hark would get the dragon. They were actually that powerful; most coulden't breath fire and they usually stayed small enough that one could touch the base of their necks (However, that topic was one of the things you learned in the proper magical creatures curiculam, not on the streets.) However, they had a strength in the tail like you woulden't beleive, and some could even change into human form. Alot of it depended on the individual dragon, but they where magestic creatures, surely, and since the first time he'd seen one, Hark knew he'd wanted one.
"Say, dwarf," he looked at the small man. "I never actually asked your name, what is it, pray tell?"
