let me first remark that I am not a native speaker of English (though I suppose that's pretty obvious anyway)...

the thing is, when I first learned that "other" meaning of come/cum, I was told that "cum" is the noun, but the verb would still be "to come"... Now, I see quite often that people write the verb as "to cum"... I suppose there are no set rules, are there? I usually prefer to write "to come", maybe because that's what I am used to, but wonder sometimes if that then would be a mistake...

One thing is, probably due to being used to german orthography (which is more phonetic than the English one), "I am cumming" looks to me like it has a different sound to "I am coming"... Do you pronounce those two differently?

'Cum' is a porn writer's convention, in my opinion. I use 'come' myself whether it's "Come over here" or "And then she comes". My readers can figure out which is which.

And personally 'cum' makes me gag. I see it in a story and I take points off like a bad dismount in gymnastics. "I'm cummmmmmming!" is a back click motivator.

I used to only use come (out of literary stubbornness) but I've switched to cum for porn. It's more clear and although cum is an evolving word, it seems pretty clear which way the come/cum debate will end up. No reason not to have two distinct words, I guess.

Ejaculate (noun) looks funny being written as 'come'. 'Cum' is ok in that regard. But I prefer the word 'jizz'.

Commiting the act of ejaculation can be written as 'cumming', but again I like reading other means of desribing it.

I agree. I mean, come on (sic)! It's erotica and that word is going to get used a lot. So, better to make sure it's clear to the reader whether the person is coming or cumming.

I'm steadily moving away from the use of cum. I'm not really eliminating it, just trending away from the word ( except in the various tenses where I've always used came, anyway ) in favor of other descriptives for my fantasy stories. If I ever write any of the other stuff floating around in my head, it will probably still have the U variant, because the nature of those stories is more pornish and it fits better there.

More a matter of broadening the audience than anything. I don't mind either version, and I'm not even put off by the occassionaly cummmmmmming. I think it has its place, when not overused. In fact, it just looks odd outside of Romantica to me to use come. That's why I'm backing away from it rather than switching. Every time I try to type it that way, it just looks weird to me

No, exactly the same around here.

I like 'come' for the verb, and realize that 'cum' is good slang if somewhat low brow, like 'titties.'

It's interesting but the opposite direction also works in English: A young lady once say to me, "Did you go off?" (i guess, like a gun).

It's part of the jargon of the porn world.
