I have these huge posters of doodle art, and whenever I get into an emotional fix, I color. It keeps me occupied while I think, and there's something very satisfying about it when you're done. I think coloring should be offered in psych classes. Heck, we should designate one day a week to coloring. Don't they have a national coloring day? Crayola should invent one.

I agree any thing like that is good for the mind

colouring, painting, drawing, sketching.

I have a bunch of coloring books and sketchbooks full of nonsense. It does calm my mind. :)

I do...my journal is of doodles, mini sketches .**** visual stuff...I add words If I want to.

it's cathartic.

perks

to hell with coloring, I'm more partial to edible body paints myself.

Am I the only one that think it would be an interesting date? Not the first date - one after you get to *really* know her. Take a girl home, cook up some cheese grill sandwiches, make up some tomato soup, and color and cuddle all day long. *shrugs* Maybe I'm just weird...

You are not weird. I think the scenario sounds heavenly. :)

I think the idea sounds fantastic! That would be a fun date. I have tons of art supplies. (I even have a few coloring books):D

that sounds fun though I'd probly turn my paper over and start drawing my date instead of colouring lol.

I have a large kaleidoscope one that I am working on at the moment...the other task that is soothing is doing jigsaw puzzles.

Jigsaws have the same effect for me...

good therapeutic (sp) therapy...

:)

Cool... I have two people telling me that its a good idea. :)

I knew I had good ideas! I just never can figure out which ones are the bad ideas... ;)

Every few months or so I also take to coloring! Thanks for the doodle art info, Myst. Most coloring books today don't quite match up to the ones I remember from the "olden days"!;)

I know that art is a major area of pyschiatric treatment and therapy too, allowing many to express feelings and emotions they cannot always do verbally.

Hey that sounds good to me too. I still remember going out one night to a little restaurant and sitting next to these two kids fresh out of high school (grad shirts on). They asked the waitress for kiddie placemats and crayons. She kind of laughed and got them for them. They scribbled furiously while they were waiting for their food but you know, they were having the most fun in the place :)

When I was pregnant with my oldest, I had the strongest urge to color all the time.

I went out and bought the nice big box of 96 crayola's (the best colors), a Disney Baby coloring book, a Muppet Baby book, and several other Disney ones. I used to color all the time. I was sitting in my room calmly coloring after I woke up at 5am, and realized I was in labor. Took the book with me to the hospital, but I didn't color there. The pain had started by then, and after the pain killers, I passed out. :)

Coloring is very relaxing, so long as it's not accompanied by shouts of, "Mom, make him blue!"

I could use some therapy right now...

I love coloring ... I color with my 2 yr old nephew all the time.

Anything that has to do with colors and drawing relaxes me. :)

I was the exact same way with my firstborn Gilly! I went and bought the big box of crayolas, and 3 of those great big coloring books at the dollar stores. I nearly filled all of them up too. LOL I still love to get down and color with the kids.
