The news gets worse for Democrats

“Gov.-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger has a historic opportunity to create a Wirtschaftswunder - an economic miracle - for California just the way West German Chancellor Ludwig Erhard did in West Germany after World War II when, as finance minister, he decontrolled prices, eliminated rationing, lowered tax rates and deregulated commercial activity. But it really wouldn't be any more of a miracle in California than it was in Germany. It would simply be the predicable result of a free people unburdened by the state acting in their self-interest to pursue the American dream.” Jack Kemp

“The California recall illustrated that voters no longer will fall for politicians professing to love workers while crushing employers with taxes and regulations. It also puts to rest any notion Democrats may have had of trashing business with the slime of Enron in hopes of riding to power on a populist wave of anti-business sentiment. If Schwarzenegger's and McClintock's votes are added together, 60 percent of voters in California voted center-right.

“American voters are beginning to demand the same thing of their political leaders that German voters are demanding of their politicians: klartext, or straight talk. “ Jack Kemp

The polling numbers are even worse…

“While Democratic officials were in full denial last week -- insisting that the Republican takeover of the biggest gubernatorial prize in the country was only about Gray Davis' unpopularity -- broader trends were at work that may signal serious defections for Democrats in next year's elections.” Donald Lambro

“About 17 percent of black voters supported Schwarzenegger, and another 6 percent voted for Republican Sen. Tom McClintock. Even more amazing, a stunning 39 percent of Hispanics also voted GOP (30 percent for Schwarzenegger, 9 percent for McClintock), despite Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante's candidacy and Schwarzenegger's vow to deny drivers licenses for illegal immigrants.

Top this off with news that spread a pall of gloom over AFL-CIO headquarters here, not to mention the Democratic National Committee: half of all union voters voted Republican, too, most of them for Schwarzenegger.” Donald Lambro

“But timing in politics is everything, and, three months before the election year begins, the GOP has something very big going for them: a recovering economy. This is going to help Schwarzenegger big time in the months to come, easing unemployment somewhat and boosting state tax revenues that will help offset the spending curbs and tax cuts he intends to make. Business leaders already believe Schwarzenegger will stem the tide of what they consider anti-business legislation -- including mandatory health care coverage for employees.

There is another political dividend Schwarzenegger will bring to the GOP if he is successful -- disenchanted Democratic voters who, after Gray Davis' debacle, no longer have faith in the Democrats to govern.” Donald Lambro

I also want to point out that Collie4KneeAH's and the National protected budget deficits grew smaller due to increased revenues due to Bush's tax cuts and that the jobless numbers are beginning to improve WHICH is why REDWAVE et. al. have been a fawkin' lot quieter this last week...
