Colin Powell has been picked by George W to head the State Department. Do you feel he will do a good job in this post or would you have rather seen him on the ticket as a presidential candidate?

If the man had run for prez he would have smoked those dummies that did.

But he didn't sooooo, I thank the good lord above that Dubya is surrounding himself with adult supervision.

Additionaly Powell doesn't have a hard act to follow in Albright lord I detest that gargoyle of a woman.

Powell will perform excellent in this position. Would love to see him up as VP or even a Presidential candidate, but respect his reasons for staying out of the running for those offices.

He will do a fine job as he always has. I would have liked to have seen him run for office but that is his decision to make. I think a good ticket would have been Cheney/Powell not necessarily that order either.

I guess I am jumping on the bandwagon as I also think he will be good for the position.

I would have loved to have seen Powell on the ticket as a presidential candidate. I think he would have been a very good choice and would have had my vote hands down.

However in 96' he said he and his family discussed it and decided it was not the right choice for their family.

I respect his decision about running or not running although I think what a shame.......the two village idiots we just had running for Prez would have been destroyed by him, in my opinion of course....

The last time he thought of running for Prez, he got death threats and threats against his family. It's a shame.

I think he'll bring a new perspective on the world politic in general. It ought to be interesting to see what happens.

Also I'll agree with Expertise on his analysis of the situation. :)

I think Colin Powell is one of the most interesting and dynamic personalities in the United States. He has overcome great odds to succeed in a very difficult field, and he is a very rrespected professional soldier. I would have been proud to serve under his command during my time in the military. of all the political figures in the United States today, he would have been my first choice as a Presidential candidate.

All that having been said, I think he will do an admirable job as Secretary of State.

He certainly...

...carries himself with a dignity that will benefit the US in foreign relations.

He has yet to be really vetted by the media. Until he survives that ordeal, the unwashed masses will not beleive in them. He has not been brought down to their level yet. They want to see the scandal, the fabrication, the DWI, before they can be comfortable with the guy. I think he feels he cannot survive it, thus, he is not strong enough for the job. He would probably be excellent. On the other hand the Reverend Jackson is strong enough for the job, but would be an absolute disaster. So, in retrospect, I vote both ways!

He did not want to help Kuwait, didnt't think the country was worth it. Very poor choice for sec state. we are going to regret it
