No ... not the Vatican roulette. I'm talking about writing, here!

Can you stop in the middle and leave your characters just hangin' there? Or, when you write a sex scene, do you feel an obligation to finish it in one sitting?

I find it particularly disturbing when I have to leave my characters in the middle of a scene.

I usually finish the sex, it's the other parts of the story that get left incomplete - either getting them into bed or writing a decent conclusion.

I usually continue the sex in one setting. I've been known to just leave them in the middle though.

It's kinda funny to do. I highly recommend it every once and a while just to releave writing tension.

Jane slowly slid her moist tongue over the wanting tip of Steve's cock. Lowering tortuously slow on his cock, she began to massage her pulsating pussy. Her nipples hard and aching, she rubbed the base of his cock with her breasts. His moans danced through her ears.

Taking her slick hand Jane began to caress and stroke the base of his bulging cock. Steve slipped further into her bliss as he felt his pleasure build.

And then you just leave and go to the mall or something. You'll get to think about all day what Jane and Steve are up to now. :)

Actually I've seen a lot of writers finish the sex scene in one paragraph: one long, involved, endless paragraph.

Some writers are perfectly cognisant of the laws of grammar until they are ready for a sex scene, when spelling and grammar go out the window.

I have a theory about this: they are getting themselves all hot and bothered visualizing the scene. They are breathing heavily. Then they start typing with one hand, if you know what I mean. The real question is, what finishes first: the sex scene or themselves.

When they have their emotions under control again, they return to their previous level of writing.

Hey, I'm not making this up. Check it out for yourselves. Do a survey. They are always frun.

No I don't usually finish the sex in a single sitting.

My short pieces of smut, which are simply a single scene, are long enough that I can't usually finish it all at once.

My longer pieces, the 'climax' is usually long enough that it takes a couple of writing sessions to finish it off.

I have constant interruptions with about everything I write, so nothing gets done in one setting. I'm amazed that I can even finish a cohesive paragraph ever. Right now, my son is poking me in the arm while I type and saying "Look at this! Look at this!"

I know how that is!!!

The current favorite thing for mine to do is to shove his gameboy under my nose (sometimes literally touching my nose), and say, "I can't do this level! Do it for me!"

I know all the music from Donkey Kong Country and Crash Bandicoot by heart. Horrible, horrible earworms.

Haha. When the weather is nice, I feel so spoiled to be able to sit down and write uninterrupted for an hour while he plays outside with his Dad. The drawback of this, of course, is that sometimes a golf ball hits my office window, scaring the bejesus out of me. :)

i've left two characters in a middle of a sex scene for five months. i didn't look at it as a block per se, but more that he had a 3600 hour hardon.

now that's stamina!

I always feel like I should take him to the doctor if his erection lasts longer than 4 hours.

I would think you would prefer to put him to good use. ;)

Yeah, I've noticed this too. One sex act: one paragraph, no matter how many different things they do.

This can also occur if the writer is rhythmic... I don't see the 'words' on the page or the structure of the sentence because I HEAR it in my mind.

It's VERY good because it makes it easy to keep sex interesting; each sex scene is a different song in my head.

It's VERY bad when I don't clean it up to a point where the reader can't hear at least a part of the music.

And yes, I can leave it in the middle; like I said it's like a song in my head... all I have to do is hit rewind when I come back to it.

Sincerely,
ElSol

I usually finish the sex scene all in one sitting. I feel guilty if I leave them hanging. Funny thing, that.

If the scene needs it, I go back and tweak the juicy parts to make them even juicier, though. Because sometimes I get pretty caught up in what I'm writing and lose my objectivity. *ahem*

And yet, just off the top of my head if I were to write some kind of BDSM scene, I might JUST need to go for the ruined orgasm effect. I do it a few times in stories, not always, but if the narrative fits, and believe me, I DO NOT feel guilty when I do it. Such is the power of suspense, or ruined orgasm :D

Depends how long the scene is. if it's a few pages....then yeah, there's a break in there....

But then, I've got the attention span of a mongoose, so that lends to me getting up and wandering.

I may sometimes interrupt long enough to give my fingers somethin a lil bettah to do. But then I try to finish.

I leave my characters hanging all the time.

I've also been in the middle of writing and not felt up to writing a sex scene that wasn't just going through the motions. So I'll type {Insert Sex Scene here} as a note to myself and move on.

My nightmare is to submit a story with one of those still in it.

I use markers like that, too! :D Usually **CHOREOGRAPH** or **EXPAND**.

But once I start the sex scene, I prefer to finish it (at least in broad strokes) in one sitting.

Finishing in broad strokes can be quite good, but I find small, fast ones to be better
