What did you like about it? Hate about it? Does the coffee have to be an extremely fine grind? I want to make that chocolate/espresso/cream drink from Torino, and I think the coffee should be more glamorous in presentation than a plain American coffeepot.

Huh? Why would I want Pete's beans? He would most likely be a wee bit ticked off if I was to take his beans...especially since they're on his plate....

And coffee...I like coffee...just plain old coffee...I don't drink any of that fancy espresso latte, double frappe lood de loop 7.99 a cup of whatever the hell it is...

Just give me the plain old homebrew strong and hot...that or a cup of 7 Eleven coffee...

Cowboy Coffee....Dump coffee grinds to taste into a coffee pot...add a dash of salt and an eggshell...fill pot with cold water...bring it to a boil...let it boil until you think the strength is right...remove from heat....and immediately pour a cup of cold water into the coffee pot (this causes the grounds to settle at the bottom of the pot)...and then enjoy!!

Yes, i only make espresso- in one of those little stovetop pots- and I find the "espresso" grind is too coarse. I use the finest possible grind at the store, or I use one of the little electric grinders.
man, that drink sounds good...

MMMmmm
Having just woken up, throat dry, moth gritty and temper uncertain. The eroticism of this thread does full justice to the Literotica ethos.

The thought of fine grinding is almost orgasmic. Never mind Abstrusions, this is the place to come for my morning hit in future. :p

Sure. But I'm gonna wait 'til I can smell/taste again.

Works for me. I can't smell or taste anything either. I also have the added bonus of having both ears stopped up.
*sigh*

I've had "cowboy coffee." What I couldn't drink, I used to clean my riding boots.

Say "ethos" again.

I like "Turkish" Grind, which is finer than Expresso, but I've been told that I over extract the beans. So fucking what? Coffee presses are cool, but messy. Especially if you like to be able to chew your coffee a little bit.

Thank you for the info, Stell. So far, that coffee drink is the most fascinating thing about the Olympics except for the odd choice of "Disco Inferno" for the march of athletes into the stadium.

They fill a glass 1/3 with espresso

Add another 3rd of melted dark chocolate (mine will be sweetened; they didn't say)

And top it off with another 3rd of heavy cream

I cannot imagine that a dash of chocolate liqueur would be unwelcome, either. Especially after a hard day of low-scoring figure skaters from rival nations.

Gotta start with espresso. Need sumpin both strong and with body to stand up to the other ingredients. The stovetop espresso makers are not expensive, you don't need one of the machines that require a second mortgage.

A local restaurant serves what they call "Vietnamese coffee." It's quite chewy, has just enough grit to polish one's teeth, and is made palatable by a bottom-layer of sweetened condensed milk.

Hell. Now I need some.

But if it's not automatic, how do I know when to stop? Brewing, that is.

When it's made the number of cups as mandated by the amount of coffee added. (Not being flippant, honest). The pot sits on the stove and the coffee come out through a valve on top. The mrs. gave it to me as an egagement gift (a mere 22 years ago) and I haven't seen this model offered for sale in ages.

There's also a kind that you premeasure both the water and coffee. Once the water boils, you invert the pot and wait for it to run through. This type is still sold.

You get a cheap Bialetti Moka pot- you can get them at World Market, or online. YOu put water in the bottom, the coffee in the filter basket, and screw the top on, stick it over the fire. When it stops gurgling, you have espresso, ready to pour out!
couldn't be easier :)

The two problems;
Make sure you buy extra gaskets, because you will burn them up once in a while, And I've melted the plastic hadles off of more than one pot- but you can lift and pour a handle-less pot by wrapping a dishcloth around the body. And then, you lay the cloth over the back of your neck for the heat, mmm... :)

I thought we were talkin' about coffee here...that looks like a recipe for dessert... :D

I first learned to make coffee like this in a bucket. Double handfull of coffee grounds. a bit of salt, Egg shells or whole egg if you happen to have one around. Bring to a boil for at least five minutes. Remove from heat and add a cup of cold water to settle the grounds. Dip out coffee. (Do not throw out the grounds!!!!!!!) For the next pot add anouther handfull or so of coffee, on top of the old coffee. It takes two or three "pots" before it gets good. (Yes you can dig out some of the grounds after the third pot, but only as much as you're going to add.)

This stuff will set you up in the morning and clean rust and just about anything else off metal in the afternoon. But oh man does it taste good.

For the coffee I make at home now? I use a perk pot, and the basket is never emptied more than halfway of old grounds.

In an ideal world, I'd order this at a cafe in Torino, where my table would be near a fireplace. It would be showing outside. Bodie Miller would ask if he could sit at my table. I'd think about it. If he asked for a sip of my coffee drink, I'd politely decline.

In the real world, I'd be happy to drink this while propped up in bed reading a trashy novel. Does this look tasty, or what?

In my ideal world the sun wouldn't be quite up. The mist rises from mountain lake like a wraith. The only sound is the crackle of the burning pine. The smell of cooking bacon, and fresh coffee waft through the air. Coffee, strong, hot, and black poured into an dark blue enamel cup. I pause as two deer pause on their way to the water's edge to study me for a moment before going on their way.

This is my real world...well...when I go camping...

Coffee...hot...black...strong....not a brownie in a cup... :D
