Code Red Mountain Dew Allergy????

I know I know, a serious post. Sorry, but every once in a while, a loyal literotica poster has real problem:

A good friend of mine spent the weekend covered in hives, and we think it's from the code red mountain dews she had drinking the few days before (5 total). We're talking major, gross outbreak here, but Benedryl cleared it up in an hour. Took 48 hours until we were able to stop the benedryl.

99% sure it was the code red mountain dew.

Now, another person has told me that he and a friend split a code red dew friday night, then he woke up saturday covered with hives.

Code Red is the new red colored mt dew.

Never heard of any allergies to it, or anything similiar. Look over the ingrediant list, and see if there is anything on it that would be an allergy for either.

it doesnt matter much to me... i'm allergic to the red food dye used in it... and that causes me to break out in hives.. so for all you know.. it could be the dyes in it that cause the problem

Sorry to hear about the problems, Fortunately I haven't had them yet, I have drunk quite a good amount of it since last month when it came out up here in Canada, but of course we remove the caffiene this side of the border so the alergine may have been removed as well.

Red #5-40, among other colors like Yellow #5 (Tartrazine), can cause very serious respiratory, vascular and even worse allergies, but the FDA (the morons that they are) haven't tested it extensively enough to verify this. That doesn't mean it isn't the case though. I am living proof of that and many others suffer from color allergies.

I am allergic to ALL color, but now, my reactions aren’t just hives.
When I was a kid drinking Hawaiian Punch was out of the question. I would swell, and hive up. No fun, for sure. Kool aid did it too. I just didn't get to have those two drinks, but that isn't the end of what I can't have now that I know for sure.
Now if I take in color, it fucks me up for extended periods of time in strange ways. I even have long term immune system damage from my intake of colors over the years.

For my friends: Good news:
A friend is helping me out, and making it so that my case will sonly become a subject of research and testing at Ohio State University's Food Science Dept. because it is so devastating, and the possibility that so many other people out there may suffer what I have, unknowingly, is rather concerning and frightening. This is all in hopes to get the FDA to do more testing on those with allergies to determine the specific cause that is universal to colorants. We are still waiting to hear, but once research starts, that'll be one more reason I won't be around much. However, this is of the utmost importance to my health, and the rest of my life, so I am sure you'll understand. [/Blah blah blah]


Anyway, Warn your friend to avoid ALL things with Red dyes now, as eventually it could become a worsened allergy, and will cause their immune system damages that are not easily repairable.

I really hope that your friends are okay. Wish them luck for me, and DON'T DO THE DEW!!!

I haven't "done the Dew" thing ever since

I was told that there was vegetable oil in it. You know, Crisco!!!
I already eat enough greasy foods, I don't need any grease in my drinks. Not knocking it though. I just don't drink it.

Aww.. Thanks Awzed. I hope so too. I've bin flu laden for too long. Considering 10,000 people die, world wide, from the flu, you'd think that it could take out the 10,000 most assholish people of the world...including the ultimate asshole, Bin Laden, but NO! It just kills innocent impoverished children and the elderly. Great.

I never drink Mountain Dew but had a Code Red or two on the drive from that place to this (serious road trip) I was so O.D.'d on caffeine I didn't notice much. Now, I'm an admitted caffeine addict and can down a pot of coffee and follow with a 12 pack of soda in one day and still get a good night's sleep. I'm wondering if I didn't teeter on the edge of something more sinister with the Dew. Hmmm drink for thought.

p.s. I have it on good authority that it mixes with vodka well too for those who can tolerate it...*lol*
