Co-ed or not? Discuss

isn't your intern "Ranx" supposed to find and post porn?

your posting privileges are suspended til we get skin

Isn't this mostly culturally defined??

In some asian countries there are family bath-houses, Americans would have a true snit over that being introduced in America.

I think it all boils down to people taking themselves faarr tooo seriously. The members of the exclusive club and the ones trying to break down the walls.

I know that for myself, I wouldn't even want to be in one of those exclusive clubs - I would continuously feel nauseous in the presence of the small-minded people who belong.

Single-sex clubs are totally cool with me, but *sigh* all the beautiful women end up in their women only clubs so there's nothing to help pass my time at the co-ed places.

You can't have a club for white men only, but you can have a club for anything else.

I concur

100%

There's a pretty damned cool women's only health club not far from me. I would love to join it but I think it's cool that ladies can exercise and be themselves without having a bunch of galking duffuses hanging around (i.e. like me).

Also,
1. They could start their golf club.
2. Most of those club-members are oafs and fogies who haven't had an original thought in 30 years. Does anyone want to hang with them?

This is just media-hype built on media-hype in this PC era. Crazy shit.

[I think a lot of girls and boys - from the data provided - excel in single gender schools or classes but that gets fighting from the far Left, too.]

I'm all for having single sex things as long as there are alternatives for the other gender. For example in boston I belonged to an all women's health club. It made me more comfortable to work out only with other women. While I was a member, a man sued us for discrimination. He eventually lost, or gave up, I don't honestly recall, but I was very upset at the idea of my sanctuary being invaded. It actually forced me to face my own double standard of men's only places being wrong. I now have what I hope is a more balanced perspective. As long as there is a women's or co-ed golf club of equal niceness, why not have a male-only one?

The only golf I play has windmills and mechanical animals on the course.

it is a private club that can decide whom to allow in or not. affirmative action (or quotas as they really are) do not apply.

That's the problem with Augusta National -- it's a private golf course belonging to a men's only club and there IS not golf course of "equal niceness."

Actually it isn't how "nice" Augusta is, it's how famous and "historied" it is. Opening Augusta to women and other minorities is all about being able to compare your game to Tiger Woods and all the other Master's champions on the same course they played.

There are thousands of Men-Only golf courses around, but the fuss is over Augusta National because it's a famous course with a lot of history to compare your game to.

YOur damn right it does! If you send your child to one of these schools, there's not going to be that really hot girl for him to imagine naked and masturbate to the thought of late at night.

would you deprive your child of that?

To me, the real issue is: at what point does a private club become a public club? I know that a non-profit club is public by nature of it's tax subsidy. Thus, Scouts of America is public. But what about a publicly owned corporation? Surely, they couldn't say that a minority stockholder couldn't enter their club--could they? I'm not too sure on the rules. Anyone know?

I've only really been affected by the "male only" club rule once in my life, and it wasn't for a health club or a golf course. It was a business meeting held at a local "men only" social club. One of those "old money" kind of places where name gets you a membership more than the cash you have, although you need the cash, too.

Someone I worked for wanted to have a business lunch at this club. Only problem was that I was a woman and therefore not allowed in the dinning room at lunch time. It was reserved for only men to have lunch and conduct business- no women allowed! We had to have a private dinning room so that I could be at the lunch with the client and not be seen by other members.

Of course, this was 20 years ago, too. Most places are more modern than that at this point.

The problem is not with exclusionary practices, cause it is a private club, but rather that they have the most public of Americal golf tournaments there. They can't have it both ways. If there was no Masters there, nobody cares or even notices. Put them in the public spotlight and the playing field changes.

Actually the have the most private of American golf tournaments there.

Up until this year's event the had only in very rare cases allowed TV coverage of the first 9 holes on the course. The qualifications for being allowed to play in the tournament are now the strictest of any event recognized by the PGA. The tournament is not affliated with the PGA or the USGA. Augusta National only had sponsorship deals with 3 corporations, although it just announced that because of this bullshit next years tournament will have NO corporate sponsors. Their contract with CBS is renewed on only an annual basis and this year limited CBS to showing only 4 minutes of commercials per hour. The entire event is controlled by the members of Augusta National and I wouldn't be the list bit surprised to see them pull it from TV completely if this bullshit continues.

Augusta National is a private club and how a private club that accepts nor requests any money from any governmental body selects its membership is an issue for none but the 300 members of said club.

What does the presidency, Hell’s Angels, and many southern country clubs have in common?

Illiteracy?

No wait, many Hell's Angels are fairly well read. My bad.
