Does anyone else believe CNN did this intentionally with Paula Zahn's prior approval just for the publicity?

NEW YORK (AP) - Embarrassed CNN executives have yanked an on-air promotion that referred to anchorwoman Paula Zahn as ``sexy'' and was accompanied by the sound effect of a zipper.

The 15-second spot promoting Zahn's morning news show aired about a dozen times on CNN Saturday and Sunday, the network said.

In the ad, a narrator asks, ``Where can you find a morning news anchor who's provocative, super-smart (and) oh, yeah, just a little sexy?

``CNN, yeah, CNN,'' the narrator answers.

The words ``provocative,'' ``smart'' and ``sexy'' are flashed on the screen, followed by a picture of Zahn. The zipper is clearly audible just as the narrator is about to call Zahn ``sexy.''

CNN said the advertisement was created by a woman in it promotions department and was not approved by top executives.

Jamie Kellner, chairman of CNN parent Turner Broadcasting, ordered it removed from the air as soon as he saw it, spokesman Brad Turell said Monday.

``It was a major blunder by our promotions department,'' CNN Chairman Walter Isaacson said. ``I was outraged and so was Paula, who has spent more than 20 years proving her credibility day in and day out.''

Zahn said she was offended by the promotion when she saw it.

``CNN management has apologized to me and has assured me that a mistake like this will not happen again,'' she said.

The former CBS News personality was hired to anchor CNN's new morning news show last year from Fox News Channel, where she was host of an evening talk show.

CNN received some criticism last year for hiring former ``NYPD Blue'' actress Andrea Thompson as an anchor for CNN Headline News, then was red-faced when risque pictures of her turned up on the Internet.

Kellner, a former Hollywood-based executive who started the Fox and WB networks, has repeatedly said CNN had to be more aggressive in promoting itself.

``A promotion like that is unrelated to her professional abilities and you can't help but think it's a promotion we would be unlikely to hear about a male anchor,'' said Barbara Cochran, president of the Radio and Television News Directors Association.

Turell characterized the promotion's statement that Zahn is sexy as an error in judgment, ``whether it's true or not.''

old news. And it doesn't matter if they did it for ratings. CNN and ALL news stations cable or not, sensaltionalise all the time. We SHOULD be used to it, but unfortunately, some are not.

That having been said, She IS sexy, so why not portray her that way. Sex sells, and the news channels ALL know this.

on that note

on that note.... Shihab Ratansi, Matthew Chance and Bill Hemmer are dead sexy :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

(but Christiane Amanpour remains my big idol)

Paula Zahn's not bad but she's not a Hall of Famer. :p

Why not? Because it's demeaning, and it's a red herring. A newscasters' sex appeal is not applicable to her ability to effectively present the news. Yes, I know that people in front of the camera need to look polished and attractive, but sexiness is a different standard, and one that is continually and solely applied to women. Not only do professional women need to possess the same (or greater) intellect than their male counterparts in order to be taken seriously, they must also achieve a physical ideal that is simply not a criteria for men. By moving into the professional arena, women are taking on new roles - as intellects, scientists, politicians, professors - but they have yet to shed the old role of Ideal Femininity.

It flat out disgusts me that any marketing department thought it was a good idea to add a zipper sound to a promotion for Zahn's show. Are they expecting male viewers to whack off to Zahn's newscasts? What's even worse it that a female make the final decision. One step forward, two steps back...

ever heard/seen of the russian news presenter who does the news topless or the czech journalist (young, perky female) who does all her interviews totally naked?

who cares? I just like thinkin about the ho that can suck the best dick. And thay blonde chick on fox in the morning does it for me.

You're probably talking about E.D. Donahey. I have no idea about anything else you tried to say.

Did you know that the vast majority of complaints received about female broadcasters come from female viewers? Men like when the women are sexy but in the end, they want competence as well.
