Do clothes really make the man....(or woman)? If you could change what someone's wearing...would you?

Do they make the man/woman? No. Do I have my preferences as to what people wear? Sure? Would I want them to change? Only if they really wanted to.

I don't think clothes "make" a person, but are important in making the first impression. I would change what most people wear. Sometimes I wonder if people get dressed in the dark or have a mirror that provides a true image.

Go 1000 !!!

Do they make the man/woman? No. Some look yummmmmmy in anything or nothing at all ;)

I would change the way some people dress in a heartbeat if I could. I'd change the lady in Wal~Mart wearing the hot pink stretch pants. I'd change the chica at the beach yesterday...I won't even tell y'all what she was wearing, but whoever said "sure, that suit looks great on you" did this girl a terrible misfortune. Poor thing. I could go on and on. :)

Clothes don't necessarily make a man, but the wrong clothes could have some ill effects.

Nothing that can't be carefully brainwashed away or burned.

Sometimes they do...

I know the way I'm dressed effects my comfort level around people, especially women I'm attracted too.

If I outside wearing jeans and a dirty t-shirt and an attractive woman walks by, I won't feel comfortable enough to speak with her regardless of her appearence or intentions. On the other side of that coin, if I'm dressed well, I feel much more comfortable, and am much more outgoing.

Clothes not only have a profound effect on first impressions, they can affect the wearer too.

My family commented once that I was an entirely different person when I was in uniform than when I was dressed casual.

Over the many years since then, I've noticed the same effect in others. Formal clothes seem to induce formal manners in many people and casual clothes or "grubbies" tend to loosen people up and make them less formal.

I'd have to say that the cliche "The Clothes Make The Man" has a good basis in fact.

That's not to say that new clothes can or will change someone's basic nature -- THAT is far from being the case. However, clothes do seem to bring out behavior appropriate to the clothes and occasion if there is any spark of appropriate behavior to nurture.
