Can someone explain to me why someone would want to have a story that is closed? I seriously don't see the point of it.

2 reasons

Two reasons I can think of.

1. The author wants to add more establishing threads before marking it open. I've done this myself.

2. The author likes the format but doesn't want collaborators, at least on this particular story.

I'm inclined to agree, although if a story got to 6-7 "opening" threads and the author still hadnt opened it, i'de kinda wonder why they didnt just write a story for Literotica instead....

Are you talking about a particular story TwiztedClown?

3. The author's on vacation, has no trusted sub-editor for that story, and doesn't want to keep any potential writers hanging waiting for approvals.

Personally, though I haven't closed a story, I like using Chyoo to write stories that I eventually turn into Literotica stories. I can write small pieces of the story without worrying about "writing a story". I've done this with My Son's Friends, my section of Neverwinter Nights, and the Sales Woman thread of A Highschool Fantasy. I intend to do this with other stories. But all this was done as open stories.

See thats what I mean, if they want a closed story, why not just write on Literotica. No particular story, just saw three of them when I was going through the small story list and they only had 1-2 threads in it and haven't been updated since 2003 or something.

Hmmm,
I've now seen both sides of this debate and they both have valid points, I now think its probably a case of personal choice....

( But IF its been closed since 2003 and not TOUCHED since 2003, its probably time to adopt it and open 'er up!)

The only reason I would make a closed story on Chyoo is if I wanted to write a choose your own adventure and I needed all the pages for myself. That way I could make paths that either interlink or lead to dead ends. That's probably what they authors had in mind before they forgot about their story.

I hate stories where you can't add at all, esp. when the writers/creators don't do anything for months or even years.

But my least-favorite (& I've even hit a few lately) are the ones where I can add a thread... I do, & it's approved.... & then I can't add to that.

how come you cant add to your own thread?
Usually, it means that something is screwed up in the Summary/Configuration stuff of the story. THings like changed minimums and such. I've found this a few times since becoming moderator.

I have come across some stories where I couldn't add a thread and when I checked all that stuff, it was all fine.

Hmmm, next time you see one like that, let me look.

I am wondering if they unclicked the continue button when approving the thread. I had that happen once by accident.

Party of Adventurers doesn't show me the button to add a thread, unless I already have added a follow-up thread to a given page.

This story is setup with a Minimum Threads of 1. This means is that a person other than the editor can only add a thread to threads that have one followup already. Remove the Minimum Thread count to alleviate this.

I assume that this is to allow an editor the first shot at adding threads. Is Dragonstar1 still around?

Yes, he is, and pretty reliable at getting around to reviews. But he can't review a thread that doesn't get added.

I didn't understand Minimum Threads. Now that I understand how the feature works, the behavior is comprehensible. It actually could make some sense for a story under active development by the editor as an author, who wants to keep extra control over the story structure.

But for most stories, the inability to grow at the "tip" seems like more of a hindrance than a help.

Thanks for the explanation,

So, send a contact post to the editor and ask him to change the setting.
