I found out this weekend that my band missed the Grammy nomination. They eliminated the subcategory of Best Rock Arrangement by a Duo or Group and lumped it in with Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s). The feeling of the people who put us up is that we would have likely made the nomination if rock arrangement was still it's own category, but that's just speculation.

Oh well, back to the normal grind. Missing the nomination doesn't really change much, we're still going ahead with the plans that were already in motion anyway. We've had an easier time getting our foot in the door with a few labels just by making the ballot, so it wasn't a waste of time. 13,000 acts tried to make the ballot and only 1,000 made it. We at least accomplished a small feat.

These are the final nominations for our category:

Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s)
(An Arranger's Award. (Artist names appear in parenthesis.) Singles or Tracks only.)

Can't Buy Me Love
John Clayton Jr. & David Foster, arrangers (Michael Bublé)
Track from: It's Time
[143 Records/Reprise]

I Should Care
Claus Ogerman, arranger (Diana Krall)
Track from: A Man And His Music
[Verve Records]

Scary Things
Don Hart, arranger (John Bindel & Nashville Chamber Orchestra)
Track from: Kid Pan Alley
[Nashville Chamber Orchestra]

Time To Smile
Jorge Calandrelli, arranger (Tony Bennett)
Track from: The Art Of Romance
[RPM Records/COLUMBIA]

What Are You Doing For The Rest Of Your Life?
Billy Childs, Gil Goldstein & Heitor Pereira, arrangers (Chris Botti & Sting)
[Columbia Records]

A hard rock band doesn't have a chance in hell against those artists.

Thanks to everyone who was supportive of me when I mentioned making the ballot.

Your band was better than 12,000 others, just in your category. I'm still amazed by what you've done.

Keep at it mate.

Sorry to hear Boota, yet your attitude toward it will get you everywhere! I have never relied on awards Like Grammy or AcademyA since they became a marketing ploy (hm, they always were but ... ) anyhow.

Cheers!

Sorry, Boota. I was gonna watch the Grammy's this year if your band had made it & boast that I "knew" a nominee. *le sigh* If I'm disappointed, I can only begin to imagine how you must feel.

Kudos for getting that far, though!

Good on you, Boota. The world and I are still very, very impressed. :rose:

You so rawk!

Hey at least you got this far, right? How many other people can say that? :rose:

Thanks everyone!

The band is cool with not making the final nomination. We all just kind of shrugged and went back to work. We're preparing to record a new album, so that's the next focus. It would have been a nice, big step forward, but it really won't change much now. The people who put us up for the Grammy ballot are working with us on a nationwide campaign to reach a lot of media outlets, labels and managers. If we can end up with a recording contract out of this it's all good. If not, we did something that a lot of bands on major labels never even accomplish. That's not bad for an album that I recorded in my spare bedroom on near junk equipment with no budget. :)

There are bigger things on the horizon, I'm sure.

It's such an accomplishment to be so close, though. Incredible!

:rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: for your hard work and your many talents.

Thanks. :)

We had an awesome practice tonight, our first since learning that we didn't make it. You'd never know we didn't win a Grammy. LOL. The new material has just got us all really caught up in it and I think we're too happy with what we're doing to worry about what we may have missed.
