Been away for a while.

Has it always been so cliquey here and I just never noticed? Or is this something new?

Dr M

It's nothing new love,I still don't feel I really belong here.
Like someones told a joke, everyone's laughing but i just don't get the punchline...

All forums, I have observed have a clique. A small hard core of posters, who "claim" a certain part of a Discussion Board.

They may be of a certain age, or have a certain interest or just have "gotten used" to each other.

It is very hard for an outsider to break in or be accepted ;)

We ain't particular

Dear Dr M, EL, and W:
Come on in and join the click. Wipe your feet first.
MG

Whenever you have a gathering of people, there will be cliques.

I don't know why people assume that cliques are bad things. They're just groups of like-minded people who enjoy being with each other. They have good things about them and they have bad things about them.

It's like demanding that a group of friends break up because friendship is not egalitarian.

But, yeah, there's cliques here. There are cliques everywhere.

I don't think it's that hard to bust into the group(s) here. You just start posting. You'll either get along with those in here or you won't.

I thought you were one of us anyway, or is it one of them?

Og

Nothing new

I got there were cliques within five posts of getting here. The cliques are why there was some talk of breaking up the board into a serious authors and more community type board a while back.

No Og, you are definitely "ONE of US," it's just difficult to tell because a few here - Math/Durt Girl, for an example - is several of us.

English Lady, I had no clue. I've had affection for you since first reading your stories and receiving your warm reply to my feedback. I love to see your AV and read your posts.

hug, Perdita

Absolutely. Let's face it, any group to which DurtGurl belongs ain't exactly elitist.

Just don't bust into a Mathgirl dialogue.

Are they cliques or just people who like posting on each others threads?

Nah. Theyare cliques. They all mail each other every day and meet on Wednesdays at Durtgurl's.

Can you have a clique of one? That'll be me.

Gauche, you are not alone - despite your gauchinocity, the big pond between us all, your Yorkshireness, and that off-putting AV.

How could you possibly offend me Maths? With what I know?

I was merely trying to be both ascerbic and witty at the same time, I probably need another 48 years practice:(

I don't get to be one of us. You see, they are out to get me.

Everywhere in the world is cliquey; people will always find people of similar minds to hang around and agree with them. However I've found that if you're a nice person, then it's not difficult to join in here. I've been here over a year and I've only had a couple of minor spats with people. And one of them was about the interestingness of Harry Potter.

The Earl

I'm part of an anti-clique. It's a group of like-minded people who enjoy being with each other, but are against the idea of cliques.

Lucky "She's" out of town, TE.

(Spats can be such fun when mutually employed.)

Dear Earl,
I certainly hope you were on the negative side of that issue.
MG

Dear Gauchie,
You're unfailingly witty and ascerbic. What does "ascerbic" mean?

MG: isn't it the special acid used in vitamin-C to prevent scurvy? Judging from his AV I think Gauchie hasn't been taking it lately.

Hope this helps, Perdita

Ahh! The paranoids are out to get you, eh?

I hope you did nothing as asinine as I did. :(

When I first heard someone, reference 'Harry Potter,' I thought it was an arcane reference to the old fur-lined thunder bucket, the fleece-surfaced member mug, the ermine-draped mini throne.

I STILL try to stay out of any HP thread that I recognize.

All I did was mention that Harry Potter was nowhere near as interesting as Scrubs or Red Dwarf. And I stand by that opinion. Harry Potter's shit anyway. :D

I'm not stirrable today. But, you went way beyond opinions of HP or TV shows, dear. You made it a tad personal, which only made it easier for 'us' to go after you. In fact I recall Pops calling you out on taking to your bed in a chicken poop kind of way.

in stillness and good humour, Pear
