Climate continues to change.

Near-shore waters went up by about 2mm per year more than the general trend for the Southern Ocean as a whole in the period between 1992 and 2011.

Scientists say the melting of glaciers and the thinning of ice shelves are dumping 350 billion tonnes of additional water into the sea annually.

This influx is warming and freshening the ocean, pushing up its surface.

"Freshwater is less dense than salt water and so in regions where an excess of freshwater has accumulated we expect a localised rise in sea level," explained Dr Craig Rye from the University of Southampton, UK, and lead author on the new journal paper.

20 Corals Added to Endangered Species List
AUG 29, 2014 12:30 PM ET // BY BECKY OSKIN, LIVESCIENCE

A tenfold increase in the number of protected coral species was announced this week, with 20 new corals added to the list of threatened species.

In total, 22 coral species are now classified as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. Two coral species were previously listed in 2006.

Reef-building coral face severe threats from climate change, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said in a statement Wednesday (Aug. 27) announcing the new listings. Oceans are becoming warmer and more acidic, and coral diseases are causing mass die-offs. Other threats include pollution and overfishing in coral reef ecosystems.

EXPLAINER: THE FACTS ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE AND SEA-LEVEL RISE IN NEW JERSEY
SCOTT GURIAN | SEPTEMBER 2, 2014
By the end of the century, the Garden State's current coast could be under more than three feet of water

Records going back over a hundred years in Atlantic City and for a number of decades in Sandy Hook and along the Delaware Bay offer evidence that sea levels continue to rise in New Jersey, by about 3.5 millimeters per year on the bay and nearly 4 millimeters annually along the coast. Overall, the ocean has risen 16 inches in Atlantic City since the start of recordkeeping, and climate models predict it could rise three-and-a-half feet or more by the end of the century. This is compounded by the fact that the Jersey Shore is slowly sinking due to natural subsidence of the land. That will greatly increase the possibility of coastal flooding, even without more severe storms like Sandy.

It’s also thought that heavy precipitation during extreme, one-day storms could become more common, and hurricanes will probably increase in strength.

Meanwhile, temperatures continue to rise. The warmest year on record in New Jersey was 2012, and the three warmest summers in history have occurred since 2005. Record high temperatures and heat waves are expected to increase in the coming decades.

You cannot argue with religion.

Every discredited "evidence" is like a miracle. It becomes more real in the telling. Phrodeau is STILL posting articles about "trends" in sea ice melting and sea levels rising despite the fact that lately the opposite is true.

They will continue to ignore any retractions and trumpet any graph, no matter how skewed the legends are on the mantissas to support their ridiculous positions that humankind is shortly facing extermination.

Ah, slate. They do the hymnal printing for the choir, yes?

Exactly as I said.

Any measurable melting of any portion of the ice is catastrophic, irreversible, and a clear, indisputable trend. Any growth in the ice is a temporary anomaly of inconsequential importance.

#LitIsStillNotHasTagEnabled -Derp!

A very few years of unusually high or low temps. is not necessarily global warming or cooling despite what some think or believe.

Nope. Incorrect. A very few years (or days really) of unusually high temperatures can only be attributed to global warming. A very few decades of cooler than predicted temperatures is a minor, meaningless anomaly. Anyone that thinks otherwise is incapable of reason. The collective has voted on this. It is settled science.

True that. The gospel of The Church of Global Warming may never be gainsaid. Halelujah.

:)

When they use the language and phrasing of heresy to describe anyone that doubts any portion of their beliefs they reveal their true insecurity.

If it is as they say...exactly, the world will need no convincing.

For example, what year was it again that the polar bears were going to drown for lack of ice floes? This year wasn't it?

What decades were those?

The last colder-than-average month was February 1985.

These climate change threads are always a kick. Both sides sling the same insults at the opposing side.

But:

Obviously the Earth is getting warmer.
Obviously there will be costs associated with that.

The cause of the warming is irrelevant.
One way or another, either by the pro-warming side or the anti-warming side, money will be spent.

The folks foaming at the mouth to do nothing remind me of the investors in Acme Buggy Whip Mfc., Inc.

Whether you invest in companies that build seawalls and pumps, or scrubbers, there are investment opportunities that will come - even if you decide to keep your head in the sand.

There you go again, insertin' those pesky facts into a perfectly servicable Queerbait rant!

But hai, it can't be settled science because 3% disagree!

Where have I seen that type of argument before?

Hmmm....

Oh yes. Now I remember.

As the world turns, the seasons change, another day, another dollar(before taxes).

Solar flares

You consider me stupid for my skepticism regarding global warming?

Hey, I like penguins as much as the next guy. But if they can't keep up with the planetary environmental changes that are bound to happen whether we like it or not, they will cease to exist as a wild species eventually.

A solar flare just missed the globe in 2012. If it had hit the US, we would have lost all elcctric power due to distruction of wires and transformers. This happened in the US in the 1859, causing widespread telegraph misfunction. If it happened today, and it happens about every 200 yerars, there would be no electricity for years. Think chaos. Yet the climate change alarmists insist that man is the problem and want make energy so expensive that it will only affect the poor and disadvantaged. We neet to explore nuclear energy to power each home with efficient energy at low cost .Right now there is enough fossil fuel to keep energy cheap. Cllimate change alarmists have red roots, wanting to control our lives thru government regulation and tax.
