For the country music fans...and I know you're out there, what is your favorite classic country hit?

I've got three...

Gene Watson, Paper Roses
Cal Smith, Hello, Country Bumpkin
George Jones, He Stopped Lovin Her Today

Yours?

Ambrosious

You took three, so I'll take three.

1) Crazy - Patsy Cline
2) Cold Cold Heart - Hank Williams
3) The Grand Tour - George Jones

Classic country...

Just about anything by Waylon Jennings
Could I have this Dance by Ann Murray

Me three!!!!!!! I love Patsy Cline. "Crazy" is one the greatest songs in any area of music, not just country. I also love just about anything by Hank Williams, Sr, Marty Robbins & George Jones.

I grew up listening to country music, until I was about 12, so I am not sure I can list just one, so here are a few that come to mind:

Patsy Cline: Crazy, Back in Babies Arms, Sweet Dreams of You, and Walking After Midnight.

Loretta Lynn: Coalminers Daughter, You Ain't Woman Enough, and Don't Come Home a Drinkin.

Conway Twitty: Hello Darlin and Slow Hand.

Charlie Rich: Behind Closed Doors

Hank Williams(not jr): Im' So Lonesome I could Cry, Jambalaya, Tennessee Waltz and Why don't you love me like you use to.

Johnny Cash: Ring of Fire, Big River and Sixteen Tons.

Is Randy Travis "classic" yet? If he is then I would say "I told you so" would be my favorite. I also love Lee Greenwood's "Fool's Gold" and "Take me down" by Alabama. If these aren't "classic" enough, sorry I'm not that old! :)

My dad is a big Kenny Rogers fan and will sing any of his song's at the drop of a hat.

Kenny Roger's The Gambler is about as classic country as you can get. I love that song!

Dads kind of hip though and has just bought a CD of Macie Gray (sp) while she's not a country singer you gotta respect a man who's still interested at 76.

Jerry Jeff Walker - London Homesick Blues

Patsy Cline - Back In Baby's Arms

Charlie Rich - Behind Closed Doors

Flatt & Scruggs - Foggy Mountain Breakdown

David Allen Coe - You Don't Have To Call Me Darlin'

Merle Haggard - Mama Tried

and a personal favorite that is not classic nor even by a country group ...

The Rolling Stones - Girl With Faraway Eyes

OMG, Kenny Roger's is awesome. Let's see, there's "Ruby, don't take your love tonight", "Gambler", (something about a knight in shining armor <I think>, OMG, That's it, I have to go find his greatest hits album again. I used to have it, I swear I did, but my bastard of an ex took when I kicked him, along with crushing all my hats and torching most of my jeans and boots. <pout> <my now hubby is so totally not into country it's not funny, and I keep getting hungry for it, but some of these newer songs i just cannot stand>
Oh yeah, then there's Dolly Parton, <awesome body and voice IMHO>
Can['t think of the singer, but the name of the somg is "what if Jesus comes back like that"Garth Brooks' older stuff.

Classic country's my favorite

Great Question. I am a huge classic country fan. I think 95% of my cds and tapes are just that. These are my faves... Hank Williams Jr (although I don't think he is classic, country radio and the media seem to think so.) He is by far my most favorite artist ever..he's like Elvis to me..I guess that is the redneck coming out. There is a song called "Country Bumpkin" I love. I love Ronnie Milsap, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, and good lord I think there are just too many for me to mention here. But let's just say that if it is country I am all over it. Alison Krauss and Lee Ann Womack are my favorite "new" artists. I think I own every 70's and 80's classic country compelation album there is. There is a infomercial I see all the time..it has like 8 cds with all old country...well, I guess that's all I have to say about that..

One of the top country artists and songs of all time was
Charlie Pride Roll on Mississippi

Everyone talks about Garth Brooks as being a legend. Sorry he ain't been around long enough. Legends are ones that don't play anymore and you think back on. George Strait is one of my all time favs....is he a legend yet. Nope not YET!!

Well I seen this tread, and just had to jump in and give my 2¢,and 5 favorites.

Hank Snow---I've Been Everywhere

Waylon Jennings---Good Hearted Woman

Dave Dudley---6 Days on the Road

Hank Williams---Honky Tonkin'

George Jones---White Lightin'

I have most of the old classics on CDs now,but I also have most of the origainal Albums also.

When my mom passed away,I got all of her album collection.About 240 of the top albums from the 50's,60's,and early 70's.And yes I still play them.Their a little scratchy sounding, but they all still sound good to my ears.

I like country music too. Big fan of CRazy by Patsy Cline as everyone else seems to be.

My favourite, favourite is "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys".

My second favourite is a Shawn Colvin version of a Tom Waites song - "Looking For The Heart of Saturday Night".

There is an Aussie country music singer called John Williamson. He's a god. Hop on Napster and have a listen to "Cootamundra Wattle" and "Purple Roses". Guaranteed to bring a tear to your eye.

I think you mean, "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town." The knight in shining armor is from "Lady". But my favorite Kenny Rogers song has to be "Coward of the County".
"What if Jesus Comes Back Like That" is by Collin Raye. He's my all-time favorite singer, with several of my all-time favorite songs. I didn't list him because I didn't think he'd been around long enough to be considered classic. But some of his songs--"Love, Me", "Not That Different", and "Little Rock", to name a few, are absolutely beautiful and will certainly be classic soon enough.
