Who knew?

From here:
It is one of the oddities of the Royal Family -- shared by the majority of the English upper classes -- that for many generations they have circumcised their male sons, invariably using a Mohel, the Jewish word for a circumcision practitioner. It was rarely done on medical grounds, nor on religious ones, but was a matter of class.

This has prompted some speculation as to whether the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will chose to follow suit. Understandably, Clarence House will not comment on such a private and delicate matter.
Apparently this practice has all but died out and "people's princess" Diana did not have her sons circumcised. So William's foreskin is likely still in situ...Nevertheless, it is an interesting perspective.

Being a Mohel is very rewarding; you always get a tip and there's an opportunity to get ahead. :D

Circumcision of the Royal males is a German tradition imported from Hanover with George I. It's not surprising that Elizabeth Windsor (formerly Saxe-Coburg) and Philip Mountbatten (formerly Von-Battenberg) would maintain that tradition. The article suggests that other aristocrats followed the Hanoverian example but this is doubtful, particularly as many of the oldest recuscant (and surprisingly numerous) Catholic families looked down upon their new German monarchs as inferiors socially.

Less than 4% of modern British males are circumcised.

The Brits became a 3rd rate shithole starting in 1914, and now theyre a 4th rate African colony.

Plot Bunny!

Less than 4% of modern British males are circumcised.
And there in, my fellow authors, lies the plot bunny! :D The palace comes under attack, the infant prince is spirited away to a safe hiding place. No one knows where, not even the widowed queen. At age 18 he returns to claim his throne....

"You bear the birthmark of the boy, but you must prove to us further that you are, indeed, the long-lost prince and right-wise king of Britain...."

Ah, yes, instead of pulling a sword from a stone this king must pull out something else to prove he is the king. And think of all the categories we could put this story in!

*Incest: "The Queen Mother would meet with this young man in private and see if he really is her son...."
*Group: "The Court would make sure that you, young man, are the aristocrat you say you are...."
*Gay Male: "The knights and gentlemen of the court would make sure that you are the aristocrat you say you are...."

Ah, what fun we could have! :cattail:

I'd like to know who/how gathered that 4% statistic. Such claims always give me a chuckle.

Re: Aristocratic

Thanks for the info, I needed something new in the act.

So a man walks into a talent agent's office and says, "Have I got an act for you!"

The NHS which has an almost monopoly on health services in UK actually reports 3.8% but I drew the line at accepting that level of accuracy and rounded it up.:)

Like many government services though, the NHS specializes in the collection of arcane detail for Lord knows what purposes.

Clearly so we writers will have more fodder for our stories :D

It is easy to tell most of you are from the UK. Most US boys are still circumcised at birth. I was one of the fortunate ones to have escaped mutilation. In 8 years of public and 8 years of private school, I have never seen another uncircumcised male (other than my brothers and sons). I know that recently there has been some backlash against this barbaric custom, but not enough!
