Did anyone else here ever get off on some of those old historical Hollywood epics? As a youth, I fantasized for months about the rape scene in GENGHIS KHAN, along with the bathing scene with all of the courtesans. I also got off on a lot of scenes in THE LONG SHIPS, especially the one where Sidney Poitier, leader of the Moors, offers the dagger to the Viking princess to kill him if she doesn't want to submit. She holds it to his throat. When we see them next, her boyfriend has burst into the chamber to rescue her, she and Sid are lounging together on the divan (she is wearing one of those harem costumes). It is obvious that the pale, blonde princess was ready to give her virginity to the dusky Moor...the first implied interracial scene I ever saw in the movies. it made a lasting impression.
Those old stories used to be filled with lusty situations. Here are a few other favorites which could be used as subjects for historical stories:

THE VIKINGS
TARAS BULBA
BEN HUR
THE LAST VALLEY
SODOM & GOMORRAH
ADVENTURES OF MARCO POLO
SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON
SPARTACUS
IVANHOE

This is just the tip of the icebeg...there are many, many more that will come to mind. If anyone else has a real affinity for these and think they might make good springboard topics for stories, please post your favorites. I am certain that the cinema is the original inspiration for my fascination with historical topics.

I don't know this movie, but I guess, it's an old Hollywood movie ? So, how clearly did they show that it was rape ? I mean, could you hear the victim screaming ? And what about the bathing scene ? I guess there was no nudity ? I mean, back then, they were very prude, right ?

As for other movies: My first idea when I saw the title of this thread was "Gone with the Wind". The love between Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara and how they end up in bed ....

My first thought upon reading this was writing a sex scene for the film "Double Idemnity". Barbara Stanwick was so hot, (even though the film was in black and white). It's classic 1940 cinema and with the intrigue and suspence involved, might make a good story.

Sorry, no rape overtones with this one.

To answer NASCARaddicted:
The rape scene involved a rival of Ghengis Khan (called Temajin at this point). The rival kidnapped Temajin's (Genghis')
woman and took her to his tent. As he made his intent clear, she struggled to get away, ripping her garment in the process and giving the viewers a brief glimpse of her nude form. The scene then shifts to a closeup of the young woman's face. She cries out in anguish and her head thrashes from one side to the other, her eyes shut in pain (although her cry and her expression could be confused with orgasmic ecstasy, a fact that I somehow sensed even at a tender age). Then the scene cuts away as Temajin and
his raiders come to rescue her, and we see her emerge from the tent wrapped only in a bearskin. Temajin scoops her up on his horse and they ride away.
Omar Sharif plays Temajin (Genghis) and Stephen Boyd (King of the 60's Historical Epics, appearing in lead roles in Ben Hur, Fall of the Roman Empire, and others) played his rival. Undoubtedly one reason I remember the beautiful young actress so vividly is that she was played by the sister of Catherine Denueve!!
The courtesan scene was a standard type for that day and featured Telly Savalas as one of Genghis Khan's captains. He and the other officers are being "entertained" in a large communal bath; you get the usual backless shots and shots of women standing in water just barely above their breasts. Still enticing to a youngster!
You can get data about the film on Amazon, including several good customer reviews. According to their website, the movie came out in 1965, but I saw it on television several years later. It's not currently available on VHS or DVD, but they do air it periodically on cable networks that show older movies. It is worth catching or setting the VCR (I have a copy on tape).
According to a report on USAToday (search for Hollywood Historical epics), there are at least 14 historical epics that are scheduled to be released over the next 2 years (beginning with GANGS OF NEW YORK). Some of the titles include ALEXANDER THE GREAT, HANNIBAL, TROY (The Iliad retold), THE ALAMO, THE LAST SAMURAI, GODS & GENERALS, and two films based upon THE 300 SPARTANS. These are major films featuting actors such as Tom Cruise, Leo DeCaprio, etc. There should be lots of good scenarios coming; however, since today's films tend to be more explicit, it seems to be more fun to imagine the sexy scenes that were "edited out" of the older epics.

ADDITIONAL OLDER TITLES:

CLEOPATRA
CATHERINE THE GREAT
BARRY LYNDON
EL CID
QUO VADIS?
DEMETRIUS & THE GLADIATORS

(more recent titles include BRAVEHEART, ROB ROY, & GLADIATOR)

Gladiator ? ... yeah, I remember in one of the historical threads, we already talked about Gladiators (I mean, the warriors, not the movie itself).

When I think about Gladiators (or the movie Gladiator), I have to think about the ancient colosseum, and all the different stuff that happens there.
I mean, they had battles featuring wild animals like lions and tiggers. And the "strangest" thing was: At some time, they filled the Colosseum with water and performed a small naval battle ....

So, something like "real sex" in the middle of the colosseum could be another new thing ....
