Cigars stink. They kill you. They are expensive and easy to hate.

Got it.

But if you enjoy a cigar now and then and have a humidor, I have a product for you.

http://www.cigaroasis.com/

Keeping the correct amount of humidity in the humidor is important especially if you buy in bulk and need to store them for an extended amount of time. Typically the target is 70 degrees F and 70% humidity. The temperature I am not concerned about. House temp is close enough. The humidity is the devil. I have done the water and sponges, I have done the crystals. It is not something I check everyday.

The Cigar Oasis is a fan and distilled water pack. It adds when needed but does not over hydrate. A little on the noisy side but I can live with that.

I give it two thumbs up.

I do like to doodads. Someone tried to buy it off me. They did not care for my answer very much.

That sounds neat. I may need one eventually. I use one of those gel jars and it seems to work well for me.

I bought this when I went to get some more of the gel fluid. The new unit uses distilled water that is cheap and easy to get. The gel fluid also leaves a residue on the wood if spilled where the water just dries up.

There was no notable flavor on the cigars from the gel pack, but who knows what is being absorbed?

Anyhoo, if you decide to get one post a review here.

A good friend gave me a cigar a few weeks ago, two cigars actually. The first I enjoyed that night, so much so that the remaining one I'd like to hold on to for a bit. It's been open and exposed to the air since then. Any advice on storing it for the longer term only using household shit?

In Tupperware with a slice of bread.

If it's in a baggie, the fridge is probably the safest place for it, as long as you don't crush it among the pickle jars and beer cans.

I actually have this little egg that you soak in water and it's supposed to keep your weed fresh, maybe that is an option too. Thanks all!

Keep it out of the fridge, the colder air gets the lower the dew point the lower the humidity.

70F 70% humidity is ideal, as posted already. A Ziploc is okay for the short term, but too damp and it'll start growing mold in an airtight container.

I know nothing about humidors. But I do know Cubans are expensive here. Friends in the States always have me smuggle a few across the border.

I have one cuban that I have been saving for a special occasion. The countries all around cuba have imported (legally or not) cuban seed over the decades. I would guess there is little difference between cigars of similar quality from either location.

ps Bring me some cubans!! :)

We have a cigar shop right in town. Actually here, it is called a tabagie. It is like a walk in humidor, it is amazing what a cigar can go for.

I would smuggle for you! Or come visit Canada, the land of happy, friendly people and Cuban cigars.

There is nothing as good as a good Cuban ,the trouble is the price .

I have only had a few. Two came from Canada and had been dried out for some time. I brought them back to life. It would seem some quality was lost during all of that.

The other is still sitting in my humidor, waiting for a special occasion.

If they're still in plastic I've had good luck putting them in the freezer.
