Was anyone else (besides me) insane enough to go shopping today? Did you get good stuff? :D
How much shopping do you have left to do? Buying anythng fun?

I'm trying to get myself into the holiday gift buying spirit. Which is helped by colder weather than I'm used to, but is not helped by all the extra stress of our recent move and my being sick. I'm afraid there aren't going to be enough shopping days for me this year.

Quote from Min:

OH HEYELLLLLLL, NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D:D:D

We slept late, breakfasted late, watched tv all morning, turkey sandwiches for lunch, drOve to the coffee shop, met and chatted with a few of Min's friends, and then back home to watch a dvd and nap.

Now THAT's the way to escape the madness of Black Friday.

I did the shopping I had to do, for posting back to UK, last week, very late in the evening, just before the mall closed. So much easier and quieter.

Ex-retailers like Cloudy and I know enough to stay home and loathe the rest of you. :)

I'm guilty of going shopping today. Lowe's had a good buy on the shop vac (half price) I wanted to get my dad for Christmas. After that I went to Wal-Mart, which was suprisingly not that crowded (of course, it was 2 hours after they'd opened.) I got a couple of groceries and one more gift each for the kids. After that I went to JC Penney and got some shoes (40% + extra 10% off) to go with my dress for the Christmas party.

Me three. A couple of years on the store side of Black Friday at Wally World will cure shopping on Friday for you, for good..
:D ;)

Christmas shopping? Whats that?? I don't do ordinary shopping - if I can help it!

My wife got up at 4:00 a.m. to hit the stores when they opened at 5:00. I stayed in my warm bed and played daddy to our kids while she was shopping.

I actually had to work today.

Well... let me clarify that, I went to work today. I don't really have any recolection of actually doing any work today.

I'm so behind.

I haven't gotten hardly anything done, but I can't shop today, its scary.

My working in retail didn't cure me of black friday shopping, it was AFTER retail when I was fool hardy to go with my mother in law. Now years later I can almost recall it without hiding in a corner. That is just SCARY!

no way no how.

Anyways, have to assemble my best holiday buy ever. My beautifuk 7 1/2 foot tall huge pre lit christmas tree of beauty... bought online, 8AM christmas day as soon as sears updated their website. 50 bucks plus 20 shipping :)

What's with all you people? Except with few exceptions, there seems to be either compulory shopping spree or lament that something stopped you from the complusory shopping spree going on.

Why? What's the occation? Black Friday? What the hell is that? Why go on a rampage today of all days? These kind of things are truly frightening to a forriner.

Me I read a book, did a column gig and had lunch with a friend. Then I went to my girl's place with a dvd and a beaujolais.

worked today. I'll do my shopping, what is left of it, when the mood strikes me. Some gifts for my friends kids. (The food is already stashed in the freezer.) The only gifts left are ones that I have to make, and the molds have already been formed. (Two gold Belly Button Rings, with three roses on each. Very symbolic to us, and no I dont have a pierced Navel!)

Want I should pierce your bellybutton? ;)

No shopping for me today. I'm one of the online shopper crowd.

Online shopping for me.

I did go to Lowes to try an get a ladder on sale. Sold out by 8am.

I left the store, wasn't going to give them any money on that day on a loss leader...

I gave a shot on going out into that wildness for the first time in a dozen years.

Circuit City had a pretty decent laptop for 199.99. Drove up there somewhere between 4:15 am & 4:30 am and there was a line a couple football fields long already.

went home and crawled back into bed next to the snuggly wife. fuck that. that'll teach me for another decade.

Because by tradition it's the opening of Christmas season and the best day for retailers. They make their money on that day so they are "In the Black".

Ok...but...why? I mean...what drives the consumer hoards to stores that day? Just the gimmick of it all? Prize cuts?

Every year they wave the magic sales in front of the consumer's noses, offering "doorbusters" and shit like that to entice the stupid to come in early to start shopping. They believe they are getting a great deal. It's Scam-O-licious.

Ah, dontcha just love the consumerist charade. What would the world be without it?

They do that here, but not until the January Sales. People spend their whole Christmas, sleeping in tents/sleeping bags, on the pavement outside the big stores that are offering something big and expense for a few pounds. We all know what it is, and they are only selling one of them, so explain to me the queues of people sleeping rough behind the person first in the queue???

Nutcases.
