Christmas for the troops

I'm just passing this along Even if you don't agree with the war, you must admit that the holidays will be hard for our service men and women who are away from home. Please consider participating in Operation Sandbox.

You all know that Christmas is coming up fast! There will still be many thousands of soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Korea and Kosovo for this holiday.

Operation Sandbox is announcing the start of Christmas Card Drive.

http://www.operationsandbox.com

We are collecting Christmas cards for our troops will continue through November 30, 2004. The cards will then be packed and shipped to soldiers serving in any of the above mentioned countries for Christmas Day.

Here are the requirements for cards being sent to soldiers:

1. Purchase your cards as soon as they are available. The earlier we ship them the better.

2. Sign the cards and put them in the envelopes. You are permitted and even encouraged to include your return address so the soldiers may write back if they have time and would like to do so. You may even include a short note to let them know how much we appreciate their service to our country.

3. Place all the cards in one big envelope and mail them to Operation Sandbox .

4. If you would like your cards sent individually to a soldier you must put a stamp on the envelope. Postage costs for this type of project are very high and we do not have the funds to ship each card separately. If postage is not on the envelope the card will be
shipped in one of the boxes for general distribution. All cards with the postage on the envelope will get an address label placed on it and it will be sent directly to a soldier.

With the help of all of you grateful citizens we know that we can keep the spirits of our troops high and let them know that we are thinking about them every day.

Our mailing address is:

Operation Sandbox
PO Box 163
Sarahsville Ohio 43779

This is a great opportunity for schools, youth groups and businesses to show their support as well as the general public.

Thank you all for supporting our troops!

We are also accepting donations for items to fill stockings and send as gifts

Thanks for posting this, even tho I'm canadian I still think it's a good idea to let those at war know we're thinking about them! :)

I just today heard though that the number of un addressed letters has become so overwhelming that they are having to distroy alot of them. I'm trying to locate a mailing list or something like that where we can get individual soldiers names and an address to wright them. I'll let ya know if I find one.

You can get mailing lists on www.anysoldier.com Click on where to send... it will list names and address.... Great idea and cause....

BTW Nice Avi.....
Thanks You saved me alot of time I hope everyone writes at least one letter

You can also get individual names and addresses at www.military.com

Operation DearAbbey usually does this same thing.

And most Veteran's Hospitals will take anything that you want to send and see that it gets distributed as well.

*giggles* one never knows

the bad thing is the restrictions on what you can send are very confusing to say the least I guess a simple letter is a good start and go from there.

un huh..... i figured sending 20 vibrators might get me in trouble.. but it would surely make some ladies day.....

I'm not at work but my son's at home so I can't. LOL I don't think he's understand if he came down to see me watching *pouts*

T’was the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
in a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone.

I had come down the chimney with presents to give,
and to see just who in this home did live.

I looked all about, a stranger sight I did see,
no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.

No stocking, no mantle, just boots filled with sand,
on the wall hung pictures of far distant land.

With medals and badges, awards of all kind,
a sober thought came through my mind.

For this house was different, it was dark and dreary;
I found the home of a marine, once I could clearly.

The Marine lay sleeping, silent, alone,
curled up on the floor, in the one bedroom home.

The face was so gentle, the room in such disorder,
not how I pictured, a United States soldier.

Was this the hero, of whom I’d just read?
Curled up on a poncho, the floor for a bed?

I realized the families, that I saw this night,
owed their lives to these soldiers, who were willing
to fight.

Soon round the world, the children would play,
and grownups would celebrate a bright Christmas Day.

They all enjoyed freedom, each month of the year,
Because of the soldiers, like the one lying here.

I couldn’t help wonder, how many lay alone,
on a cold Christmas Eve, in a land far from home.

There very thought brought a tear to my eye,
I dropped to my knees and started to cry.

The soldier awakened, and I heard a rough voice,
"Santa Don’t Cry, this life is my choice;

I fight for freedom, I don’t ask for more.
My life is my God, my Country, my Corps."

The Marine rolled over and drifted to sleep,
I couldn’t control it, I continued to weep.

I kept watch for hours, so silent and still,
and we both shivered from the cold nights chill.

I didn't want to leave on that cold, dark, night,
this guardian of honor so willing to fight.

Then the soldier rolled over, with a voice soft and
pure,
Whispered, "Carry on Santa, Its Christmas Day, all is
secure."

One look at my watch, and I knew he was right.
"Merry Christmas, my friend, and to all a good night."

I figure if I put lots and lots of Mistletoe all over Lit then a chain reaction will happen on Christmas *wicked grins*

Mistletoe leads kissing

kissing leads to snuggling

Snuggling leads to fondling

fondling leads to Well you get the drift.

so.............................

Merry Christmas!!!!!!! to all and enjoy the Mistletoe and what ever it might lead too :D
