Season’s greetings everyone.

I know that I am not the first person, nor the last, who finds this time of year quite difficult. And in that difficulty, isolation tends to take hold.

There is a lot we cannot do to combat this directly, as most of the struggle is beyond our control to address. But we can implement strategies to help us cope as we make our way through one day at a time.

Now this may seem silly, and I have no clue if it will even work. But I thought that perhaps a check-in system might be of benefit. A place where people from all walks of life can connect with others with the sole purpose of getting through this time together. This might take the form of daily PMs here, or via email, or perhaps a weekly voice chat on Skype. Single/attached, sexual/nonsexual discussions, it’s open to all needs…to each their own, right?

So if you are interested, please feel free to leave a post below stating a wee bit about yourself, your availability, and what you may be interested in.

As for me…
About me: I am in my early 30s, single, working professional in Australia. I have shy tendencies, but I am quite the goofball once I feel comfortable. I lean towards the more creative/positive view of life but have experienced quite a few darker things. I am bisexual with submissive tendencies. Any other details, please feel free to PM and ask.
Availability: I will be available throughout the season via PM, email, or Skype voice chats.
Interested in: FWB, nonsexual discussions (from life to books to all things in between), an ear and shoulder for any venting. I am a free-spirit, so I am open to seeing where connections are made and following what feels natural.

If nothing comes of this, I hope you all are well and have an amazing Christmas and New Year.

- Lucy :rose:

I've never enjoyed this season, and I usually try to get away on a trip somewhere to avoid the bulk of it. Unfortunately I'll be at home this year, on my own mostly as most of my friends are away in warmer climes.

Feel free to say hi, if you need someone to chat with.
Always good to make new friends. :rose:

Hey SJ,

Welcome! It's lovely to meet you. How has your week started? Well, I hope.

Friends seeking warmer climates isn't generally an issue for me here...they are all leaving to find a traditional Christmas with snow!

If you could be anywhere for Christmas, where would you be?

- Lucy :rose:

I used to dread it with all the gift giving, but the past few years our family has agreed to make a charitable donation and forego the gift giving and just enjoy each other's company and we have rediscovered the joy of Christmas. Being with family and friends and enjoying their company.

Sheesh I sound like a damn Hallmark commercial now!!!!

As for me I'm super single and I'm very open to conversation both pg and non-pg rated ;). You can see the different ways to reach me on my profile, and I have been told I'm a good listener :)

Lovely to meet you too, Lucy.

Any day I get to work from home in my PJ's is a good day, as far as I'm concerned. :D

Have you never had a 'traditional Christmas' at home?! (Besides mall shopping, that is? ;) ) As a child we would typically ice skate in the front yard, and go tobogganing during recess at school. Typical Canadian upbringing, I think. At least it use to be.

I would happily be in Costa Rica over Christmas again this year, but this time I'd rent a dirt bike and adventure ride. San Diego would be an acceptable compromise.

How about you?

:rose:

I adore that idea of giving to a charity instead of presents. Such a wonderful idea! I may discuss it with the family and see if we can do that, too.

What would be your favourite aspect of the holidays?

Oh, nice! PJ work is definitely the best kind of work. Do you have a particular pair of pj's that are only for work-at-home days? I'll admit that I do!

Yes I have had a traditional Christmas when I lived in Scotland. I was quite young, and remember thinking that the snow was far more yellow than the cartoons suggested.

Costa Rica would be beautiful at any time of year. It is on my travel bucket list. Have you been there before?

Here in Australia, it is just hot. And since most families carry the British gene, most people also try to cook the full Christmas day lunch in the insufferable heat. It's all a little bonkers. But the beaches are lovely, if you remember to bring your sunscreen.

My favorite part of the holidays is being able to spend time with my brother. He works on a fiber optic cable laying ship and is usually out to sea for about three months at a time. We have always been close and it's hard sometimes not seeing him for so long.

That does sound wonderful. I am so happy for you that you get that time with him. It may be rare, but that makes it even more special. :rose:

I don't know what i am going to be like this year. My ex wife left me right after last xmas and took the kids with her. Divorce was finalized a few weeks ago.

I will be going back home to see my immediately family on xmas eve but will be back here on xmas day since i have to work on the 26th and will be alone. Will be alone for most of the season this year and that is new for me.

So I guess I would always welcome new friendships and anything else that can lead to.

So far though I am doing pretty good.

I have some red flannel tartan pants that are super comfy and warm, so I usually wear those whether I'm working or not. I think I'll put them on right now. :D

I was in CR a few years ago for 2 weeks over Christmas. It was amazing. I rented a car with an ex-FWB, and we explored the north, and west coast (Nicoya Peninsula). The food was cheap and tasty once we figured out to eat at the sodas with the locals, and we managed to see some cool animals and sights. The people there are lovely, and it's very safe. We flew in and out of Liberia, and went immediately to Playa del Coco for a few days of RnR before adventuring out. We did wear our Santa hats though. ;)

I think Aussie Christmas would be fun! Why not have a midnight feast outside instead, to beat the heat?

I'm recently single so now live alone , so it's Christmas for one , family live far away so won't be seeing them
Can't be bothered to decorate lol
Christmas day I shall play on my console and sort my toy collection out

Bumping this thread because I think it's a lovely idea :rose:

For myself - I'm all set in the FWB department, but single otherwise and it does get lonely at times. If anyone just needs a friend to brighten up the dark winter evenings, feel free to message me. It's looking like I'll be getting plenty of online time this winter, been I'm having some health issues that are restricting my normal activities.

Wishing anyone a pleasant - or at least not too tough - holiday season :)

This thread reminds me of everything that I take for granted. Merry Christmas, folks. Thinking of you and hoping you are blessed with your own peace and joy this holiday season.

I find enjoying the social aspect of the whole season and not focusing on the day itself so much helps. And as another poster mentioned, giving time or money to good causes helps as well.

And spending Christmas doing something you like and enjoy helps. It doesn't have to be traditional.

Oh yeah, Christmas and New Years are definitely the two most difficult holidays in terms of being alone. Valentine’s Day is super easy. But these winter holidays have over a month of build-up and all you see is businesses and telivision creating this idea that the only way to be happy is to be with a partner. It’s pretty hard to kick the loneliness, even more so when you have relatives and coworkers asking when you’re going to get married and have kids.

I have worked on every Christmas and New Years since 2012 and it helped a lot.

This year, I have a better job that allows me those major holidays off. It’s bittersweet. I’m happy to finally have the days off but I’m going to be fucking miserable.

Watching the ball drop on New Years and knowing millions of people are kissing all at one moment fucking blows. But I still like to watch it live for some weird reason.

I've developed a New Year's ritual of getting cozy in my pajamas and bathrobe and watching the ball drop (when I can stay up for it, lol). I have some bubbly solo. I watch movies or tv or read before that. I go to bed shortly after. The next morning, I make myself a nice breakfast and mimosas with the left over bubbly (I put a wine stopper in it to preserve the bubbles). I do similar things for Christmas.

It used to bother me to be alone, but I find it relaxing and there's not all the stress of traveling in traffic, etc.

The positives of being alone are sometimes hard to see until you hear the stories of people who have an insane amount of work to do with their family. They have parties that they're obligated to go to, kids to take care of, deadlines to meet, and the list seems overwhelming.

When I hear those stories, I sit back and think, "Man, I love being single! I get to play my videogames and watch Youtube videos and eat whatever the hell I want!"

"Remembering the reason for the season" has a different meaning for me. lmao

I say all of that to say this... I can appreciate your tradition. I wish I could handle it as well as you. Maybe one day...

I am so sorry to hear of your year. It seems like yours has been quite hellish.

Please feel free to PM me.

Perhaps there is a goal you might like to achieve with your solo-time? Something that will help you put your focus in helpful places, rather than on the darker thoughts that can arise.

Well that is far too cute! Red flannel tartan pjs, you can't get more Christmassy than that! :rose:

A midnight feast? That may just be worthy of trying! I'll get back to you with details as they arise! :rose:

Hehe...I approve of these goals. What games have you been into lately?

Thank you for the lovely bump. :rose:

Yes, I love that idea. Doing something that makes you happy, instead of the usually running around trying to please other people. Embrace the relaxation! :rose:

I imagine it will take practice, as with all things. What is something you can do for yourself that will make you happy? :rose:

For me, I am thinking a relaxing bubble bath, a rare glass of wine, and a movie marathon of some sort.

Marathoning anime and I’m going to try World of Warcraft for the 3rd time in my life when I get home tomorrow.

Virgin status maintained, Captain!

Hey now...as an ex-WoWer I can assure you that many gamers get action. Think positively :)

What character do you think you'll play?

Years ago I joined some Swedish friends for a mid-summers night midnight feast. They brought big tables outside, did up a roast and veggies, and had frozen bottles of vodka into ice blocks with just the necks sticking out. So much fun!
