I heard an interview with Christine Quinn on NPR on Saturday. She is a politician in NYC who might be running for mayor. She is gay, married and a Roman Catholic. She had an interesting perspective on her faith and her homosexuality. I can't quite understand it. She said she has no problem with her homosexuality because that is who she is. While she understands the Catholic position on homosexuality, she feels it is "their" problem, not hers.
Obviously her marriage is not recognized by her religion. She didn't address how she felt about that. I looked up her position on abortion, and she is Pro-choice; again, in direct conflict with her religion. She did say she has no intention of leaving the Catholic Church.
I guess my question would be,"Why"? How does she reconcile the discrepancies between her faith and her lifestyle? Does she think she will change the Catholic Church's position on homosexuality and abortion? Why does she need the Church? Isn't it disingenuous to subscribe to a faith whose tenets are in direct contradiction to your own personal beliefs?
