It shouldn't come as any surprise that Christians aren't as holy as they claim to be. How many times have we heard of pastors/ministers diddling the underage flock or church secretaries helping themselves to a monetary bonus rather than let their god help them. This doesn't include all those Catholic priests raping young boys for at least the last 1,000 years.

Now comes word the son of the man who founded the Moral Majority isn't so moral.

Over the past year, Falwell, a prominent evangelical leader and supporter of President Donald Trump, has come under increasing scrutiny. News outlets have reported on business deals by Liberty University benefiting Falwell’s friends. Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen claimed that he had helped Falwell clean up racy “personal” photographs.
. . .
In interviews over the past eight months, they depicted how Falwell and his wife, Becki, consolidated power at Liberty University and how Falwell presides over a culture of self-dealing, directing university resources into projects and real estate deals in which his friends and family have stood to make personal financial gains. Among the previously unreported revelations are Falwell’s decision to hire his son Trey’s company to manage a shopping center owned by the university, Falwell’s advocacy for loans given by the university to his friends, and Falwell’s awarding university contracts to businesses owned by his friends.

“We’re not a school; we’re a real estate hedge fund,” said a senior university official with inside knowledge of Liberty’s finances. “We’re not educating; we’re buying real estate every year and taking students’ money to do it.”

What is very interesting is the school has everyone sign a non-disclosure agreement which doesn't end if they leave service. If you are not at the Law school portion, professors have no tenure. One can't speak to the press without first consulting Falwell, Jr.

“It’s a dictatorship,” one current high-level employee of the school said. “Nobody craps at the university without Jerry’s approval.”

Which is a rather interesting statement considering Christianity is built around a dictatorship (Don't believe me, ask your Christian friend what they say will happen if you don't the word of their god).

A very long and interesting article for those who care to read it. It should be noted Falwell and the con artist are good buddies. Which shouldn't be that surprising. Corruption breeds more corruption, and what is more corrupt than organized religion?

After saying any picture of him being shown at a nightclub were photoshopped, pictures from 2014 showing Falwell, Jr., his wife, two sons and a daughter-in-law, at a Miami nightclub, drinking alcohol, were posted to World Red Eye, a site run by well-known club photographer Seth Browarnik.

Browarnik said he was unaware how many photos he had of Falwell until Falwell alleged that his site’s images were manipulated—prompting Browarnik to explore his photo archive to prove otherwise.

For the past 21 years, Browarnik has photographed Miami nightlife. Because of his trusted reputation as a photographer, he thought it was important to quickly quash Falwell’s accusation.

“That’s why I have an archive of five million photos,” Browarnik told me. “That’s why we catalog everything.”

While reviewing images from the night in question, Browarnik discovered several previously unpublished photos from that evening in which Jerry Falwell Jr. and other members of the Falwell family can be seen—including Jerry’s wife, Becki, sons Trey and Wesley, and Trey’s wife, Sarah. In the images, the Falwells can be seen in the middle of the club’s dance floor while lasers and other light effects reflect around them. In at least two photos, Falwell family members can be seen holding alcohol. (Liberty University is notoriously strict about alcohol consumption, and students can receive demerits for co-ed dancing and be expelled for drinking.)

I read that piece when it came out a couple days ago. It's extensive, well-documented, and pretty damning.

What I find most interesting is that Falwell Junior has yet to pull a 45 and be publicly screaming at the top of his lungs with the media and on Twitter about how he is going to sue Politico (and anybody that talked to them for this story) into the ground.

Me theenks...just maybe...his attorneys have probably told him to NOT do a 45 and keep his mouth shut hoping it all just goes away like the report on his and his "pool boy," and Trey's kinky little South Beach, gay and alcohol friendly, hostel investment did. ;)

.

 Ut~oh! It looks as if Jerry Junior has gone into meltdown mode and is now screeching about "attempted coups" and has even got his bestie-buddy in the White House to mobilize the FBI for him. I'm sure we can expect threats of gazillion dollar lawsuits to be added to this farcical comedy at any moment.

Reuters exclusive: New charges and emails add to Falwell Junior's woes

Maybe a weekend at his South Beach gay-friendly hostel with his favorite pool boy will calm him down? :D

.

A bit late. I'm sure Cohen has already detailed for prosecutors what he did for the Falwells at Trump's behest.

I dunno, Keith. Unless there is a yet-to-be-dropped bomb (like 45 and Cohen helping Falwell get in on the Russian money laundering game) I'm not too sure the legal eagles in NYC are concerned about the seamier Jerry Springer episodes involving Falwell and Liberty U.

I do think there is enough leaking out that Jerry Junior is beginning to wonder if he has enough fingers to stick in the holes in the dikes and not get washed completely out of the goldmine Daddy left him.

Kinda like how I'm sure all of 45's kids are secretly cringing that their gravy train may be headed straight for the wall because 45 doesn't have his ass covered anywhere NEAR like he thought he did. :D

It would take a lot to cover that ass!

A little off topic but related.
I read recently, although I've not been able to find it again, an article on religion that included a comment stating that "Jesus was the greatest American to have ever lived." Do you think this is a common sentiment. Do committed Christians in the USA not understand that Jesus was a Jewish rabbi, born and bred in what is now Israel? And that Christianity has grown from the breakaway Jewish sect that was based on his teachings?

Surprise surprise, SYK is misusing the word dictator....imagine that

The hits keep coming. Now Jr is facing criticism from his own people over emails he's sent over the last decade which contain profanity and belittling language toward students.

In one 2015 email, Reuters quotes Falwell as lashing out about students parking in private lots instead of paying parking fees to Liberty: "These students need to learn to play by the rules or they can go to another college. I'm tired of this crap."

And when a parent wrote out of concern for her student being moved from a dorm due to construction, Reuters says Falwell wrote to other administrators, saying: "Tell them, if they keep complaining, we'll tear them down over Thanksgiving break!"

In other emails reported by Reuters, Falwell calls a university official "a bag of hot air" who "couldn't spell the word 'profit.'" He reportedly calls another official "a half-wit and easy to manipulate." And said of a third official that he should only be "involved in something if you want it not to work."

Jr has admitted the emails are real, but they were stolen.

Really. That's what you're worried about. The emails were stolen.

On Friday, a small band of students protested on Liberty's campus, demanding that Falwell be held accountable. Standing in the rain, the students carried signs that said, "If you won't answer to us, answer to God!" and "Accountability," according to CNN affiliate WSET.

Surprise, surprise, BB is too stupid read the words on their screen.

Was that current high-level employee who doesn't know what the word means also the individual who filled in the thread title???

Lit says YOU put that lie of a title up.

Looks like Jerry Junior's firing back and going full Donnie-T in the process. Deny. Demean. Call in DOJ. And sic the lawyers on everybody! .

Falwell told The AP on Tuesday that he wasn't going to "dignify the lies that were reported" in the Politico piece, calling the reporter for the story a "little boy."

Falwell said he would ask the FBI to investigate. He also said Liberty has hired "the meanest lawyer in New York," whom he declined to identify, to pursue civil cases.

not heard a peep about this but none of it surprises me. which is kinda sad.

This update and opinion piece from AL.com popped up in my news feed today.

The Jerry Falwell Jr Dumpster Fire

What the article speaks to isn't the interesting thing. AL.com is well-known as a place where uber-conservatives from fire-engine-red Alabama gather to bash everything to the left of Mike Huckabee and promote Donnie-T in every post in the comments section. It's like the Deep South redneck version of Breitbart.

The comments on this article are much different from the norm. Most are expressing deep displeasure at best on what is coming out on Falwell Jr and Liberty and chanting about tar & feathers while lighting up their Tiki-torches at the other end. When you've managed to even get the die-hard Southern Baptist Trumpies pissed at you, it's not a good sign.

There would be some seriously hysterical irony if 45 ends up having to "distance himself" from Falwell to hold the same base they both work so hard to keep aroused. :D

And the war on Christianity roars on!

And the war on Christianity roars on!

Much like the infamous "War on Christmas" the only "War on Christianity" seems to be the one where the blatant hypocrites aren't simply satisfied with getting up in their pulpits and on their soapboxes using the Bible as a weapon, but also manage to keep mortally wounding themselves with stupidity like that being finally exposed with Falwell Junior and the university scam he inherited from daddy.

You don't get to claim some kind of imagined pious righteousness, choose to stand out in an open field cranking off shotgun blasts in every direction as fast as you can pull the trigger and reload, and then whine up a storm about some perceived "war" when you get hit with return fire.

Course, the real victims in the battles are those of us that hold tight to our Christian beliefs and spirituality but are trapped somewhere between deeply embarrassed and completely appalled at those kind of antics.

Falwell Junior, Frankie Graham, Pat Robertson, Mike Huckabee, Mike Pence, et al, all need to heed the words of Jesus straight out of the Gospel of Luke: "Physician, heal thyself."

You hold on tight to your christian belief and spirituality you'll need it someday. As long as these institutions are governed by humans there will always be corruption. The Catholic church is going through its renewal. It's very difficult to overcome the distrust towards the stewarts of Catholicism and believe in an institution that perverted the very principles it teaches. I was around during the Jimmy Swaggart scandal, one of the biggest fallouts of christian faith. I've learned that the principal teachings are the most important tenets of faith. The war on christians is real, just read it on LIT. If you believe in a supreme being your an idiot, that's today's society. Were becoming a society that doesn't believe God and science can co-exist, and a society of no-it-alls.

I see as the main problem being two-fold.

1) ~ Far too much of the religious community think nodding their heads like a car dashboard dog at anything and everything a preacher shouting from behind a pulpit says...or doing the same with any Pontifical Proclamation from Rome...is somehow personally spiritual. There's a distinct reason why the verse "Study to show thyself approved" is in the scriptures. IE: the Bible isn't just a Sunday fashion accessory. ;)

2) ~ The other big part of the "simple" equation is that, again, far too many of the self-declared "religious" are diving into all sorts of interpretations, beliefs, and blind tradition-following, but haven't yet gotten even the two most basic tenants of Christianity down correct: the two commandments that all the Law hangs on... "Loving God with all your heart, mind, & soul" and "Love thy neighbor as you love yourself." Until those two are front and center and working, pretty much everything else with "organized religion" is little more than the modern day version of the Tower of Babel.

I've often thought the Native Americans are who got it right. Commune and worship in nature with your eyes and ears open to see and hear what the Great Spirit imparts, and only seek out the "medicine man or woman" for ceremonial or healing purposes and as an occasional additional guide for what should be a mainly personal journey.

You're right...too much faith placed in a human leader is almost destined to bring disappointment and anyone that denies the ability of God and science to co-exist is a fool.

UPDATE

Accrediting agency wants information related to media reports about corruption at Liberty University.

The accrediting body that oversees Liberty University has asked the college for more information about recent news reports that have questioned President Jerry Falwell Jr.'s leadership style and personal business interests, a spokeswoman told The Associated Press.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges recently sent the Lynchburg, Virginia, university a letter asking it to "respond to the media reports," Janea Johnson said this week.

Just a shot in the dark, here...but I'm betting Jerry Jr is NOT dancing in the chapel pews over that little addition to his stack of problems.

There's three entities you should never offend or piss off...God, Karma, and the news media. It's looking like Falwell Jr has hit the trifecta.

 Disgraced former Faux Noise Reporter Joins Scandal-plagued Liberty University Staff

The Florida native will join the staff of Liberty's "Game On" program.

Liberty University made the announcement on their Liberty University Game on Facebook page late Wednesday night.

The moves comes a little more than three years after a Barstool Sports broadcast on Facebook, in 2016, cost Austen her job as a reporter for Fox Sports in Florida.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Austen referred to Cleveland Cavaliers basketball player Kevin Love as a "little b - - - -'', while also adding she "didn't even know that Mexicans were that smart,'' and how the "Chinese guy is always the smartest guy in math class.''

Liberty University president Jerry Falwell said he believes everyone deserves a second chance.

File this one under: Because nothing says "Upstanding, morality-based, overly-strict Christian university" quite like hiring as a prominent face of it's sports programs, a disgraced, bigoted, trashy-mouthed "Barbie doll" that even her top gold-standard "qualities" of flowing blonde hair and Grand Canyon cleavage, still weren't enough T&A for the Faux Noise bigwigs.

I'll bet Jerry Junior's "pool boy" is jealous. :D
