Okay here is a little story.

Mr K and I have some stuff in a storage space. Some of it is ours, but most of it is our landlord's, because she had a ton of fusty antiquey things crammed into this flat and we wanted to have more space (plus it just wasn't our style, we're much more designer modernish)- so about 3 years ago we got her OK and put a bunch of it into storage.

Well, now we're moving, so we have to get it back here. When we put it away three years ago, we hired the 'man with van' service that the storage facility offered. No muss, no fuss, easy peasy. So we figured we'd use that service again. We went over to the place about a month ago to make the arrangements. The fellow there told us, there was no need to make any reservation, we should just show up the day we wanted. It seemed too good to be true, that we would not have to book, so we asked again and he assured us it would not be a problem.

(Have you guessed yet that there was, in fact, a problem?)

Today before we headed over there, I phoned to make sure the guy with the van would in fact be available. The guy this time (a different guy) said, "What van?"

I told him the story, how when we'd moved into the space we'd used their guy with their van and he says, "Oh my, that must have been years ago; we haven't had such a service for some time."

So Mr K and I are like, fuck, what can we do? We'll have to rent a car. Mr K goes on the net, does some research, makes a phone call, realizes he is going to need to go get some documentation (like, his driver's liscense, which is in his bag that he left at his office last night, because we went out to the pub and he didn't want to lug it around) from his office in Central London in order to get a car.

Except it ends up taking him like an hour to get to his office, which is smack in the middle of town, because of the war protests, which are preventing any of the busses from getting through, so he has to walk.

Then he gets to the car place, but because he is an American, they need his passport in order to rent him the car, which he probably should have thought of sooner, but he didn't, so I then take a cab over to the rental place with it.

Finally, we have the car. We go over to the storage place to move our stuff out and get there about 20 past 3. I ask the guy at the desk (who is now another different guy from the one I spoke to in the morning, and the one from last month) what time they close. Because I'm thinking it's going to take at least 2 trips, maybe 3, and if they close at 5 that will be cutting it close, so I was hoping it would be 6.

He says, "Oh we'll be closing in ten minutes."

What the fuck? What kind of business closes at fucking 3:30 on a Saturday? (Answer: an English one.)

Yeesh. Grrr.

Anyway, thanks for reading, very kind of you to care so much about my pathetic and annoying incident.
