I walked past a group of young girls today who were playing jump rope in the school yard and I did not recognize the song that they were singing.

I can remember using 'One potato, two potato...', 'eeny meeny miny moe', 'buck buck' 'red rover'.

What songs or sayings did you use as a kid to jump rope, choose sides or play a game?

Oh man Tony let's see
While jumping rope we sang:
Cinderella dressed in yellow went upstairs to kiss her fella.
Mad a mistake and kissed a snake.
How many doctors did it take?
(then you started counting the doctors to see how high you could get)


If you wanted to get close to a boy you put your finger on your arm moving it in circles and said "Circle Circle dot dot dot, now I've had my cootie shot."

I cannot believe I remembered that.

I remember jumping rope to "Ms. Mary Mack" and various others that upon reflection...make no sense whatsoever.

We also played this game where you jumped rope chanting the letters of the alphabet until you messed up. The letter you "end" on is the first letter of the first name of the man you would marry. Now who is the hell has a first name that starts with "Q" (and that was always my luck)

I rode in a bus once for 21 hours to Alabama with 35 kids and they sang that song WAY TOO MANY TIMES.
