Ok so Look for about 2-4 other to join in on this. Group RPG loosely based on the ANITA BLAKE book and comic series, with some changes of course. Trying to keep the numbers down so people aren't having to swim through miles of posting to find what is relevant to them. Just like the AB universe the main species picks are vamps, humans (talented or not) and shifters. Some of the same rules apply and some don't. There will be a posting order to keep things flowing a bit smoother.

Setting – Las Vegas, Nv

Background– Anita Blake like Universe. Clan leaders most are in the background/shadows playing nice with the politicians and keeping their vamps in line. A city can easily have more than one clan head. Shifters live in either loosely or or closely knit groups based on their animal types and own human personalities.

Feeding: Willing Adult donors -either lovers/partners or volunteer donors OR Bagged blood. Combination of synthetic and human blood as full synthetic blood will not sustain the vampires.
Vamps are mostly turned very few pure borns and most are very old
Shifters are either born (first turn at puberty) or turned
Before being turned to shifter or vampire the human must first apply for a change in status and receive a new license identifying them as shifter or vamp.
Special Holy water, silver, fire, removal of the heart and head = death to a vampire
LOTS of silver for a shifter

Vampires Rules Power etc:
Levitation
Teleport – Places they have been before
Mind control – to an extent
Super Speed
Super Strength
The older the vamp the more likely to have a less common power like immolation, calling beasts etc
Vamps can go out in the pre dawn hours and mid dusk with no harm. More older and wealthy vamps may on occasion venture out with specially made sunblock (expensive)

History: Vampires came about from a pact a Clan in darkest Europe made at the time unknowingly with a demon. The ability to protect themselves from shifters and other supernatural creatures came at a cost. The powers were bought with blood so they must feed on blood. Athor, the sorcerer who summoned the demon was albino and light sensitive, giving birth to their vulnerability to the sun's rays and their paler skin. Many of the strongest spread out over the world, starting their own clans and giving rise to the second generation of vampires.

Donors – volunteer donors can only open vein for a vampire no more than 2 or 3 times a month. Emergency donors for the hospitals are limited to twice a month. A 3rd only if no one else is avail and then they are placed on a two month paid resting period.

Changing – It takes two bites to become a vampire. The first include a small exchange of blood between human and vampire. The second bite the human is drained to the point of death and then must feed of the vampire to complete the transformation. Changes are supervised by at least one other vamp to ensure the person does not harm his or herself or anyone else during the conversion

History: Several clans wished to be bigger and better than those around them. No longer did they wish to be subject to random and often deadly violent attacks. An aged and powerful crone cast transformation spells on all of them. Each clan took different animals. The young and the newly change are subject to the moon's call whether they want to change or not. Children born to human mother for the time of the pregnancy share their strength with their mothers as a means of protection while in the womb. A born shifter will not achieve their first change until they hit puberty, between 13 and 15 years of age. They often have a better handle on their first change compared to a changed human.

Shifters overall tend to be more welcome than the vampires, only because they do not prey on humans to survive.


Extras – There are plenty of brothels that can be found around the world where shifters, vampires and other being work, catering to the fetish humans have for them. Highly regulated and usually VERY expensive and secure places.

Background: Catlina is Mediterranean and thats the most anyone will ever get of her life before her change. Does not talk about her past whatsoever including her maker. She works at Black Stardust, one of the best and most expensive Vampire/Shifter exotic revues in the Blood District. Catlina is on the stage 4 maybe 5 nights a week. She and the club's owners Amara and Duncan came over from Europe together. Mood changes from day to day, some days she can be as sweet as sugar and the angle on your shoulder. Other days she's hellfire and fury on two legs. On those days it pays to just stay out of her line of fire, literally. While Catlina is not one to turn anyone away from her bed within reason, she normally avoid humans as relationships with them can be...messy and complicated. Her drink of choice is BV – Blood Vodka, when she feels the need to indulge. Catlina has bounced around the states from various jobs and live before ending back in the loving care of Amara and Duncan.
Hobbies: Dancing off the clock, wine collecting, movie watching mostly the classics, jewelry making.
Dislikes: The Anti Vamp movement, grabby customers, late blood deliveries.
Likes: Classic black and white films, old fine wine, music, video games, second hand/antique shopping.

Black Stardust​

Black Stardust is located in the Blood district and is one of the oldest and most well known establishment. Originally the stardust was the original vampire sanctuary and blood hole. There were a few dancers when Amara and her husband Duncan first open. It has since evolved into the best and most popular exotic dancer club featuring shifters and vampires. Everyone is welcome, with proper and valid ID of course. Thursdays and Saturdays are Ladies night, though it attracts more than a few men and the same could be said of regular nights and the women who come then. Black Stardust is a three level building. The maine area is several hundred square ft encompassing the stage, bars, vips rooms and so forth. Upstairs is where the resident shifters dancers without permanent residence reside. Down in the basement are the rooms belonging to the vampires. While both Amara and Duncan are kind and soft spoken neither are vampires to cross as they are also some of the oldest in the area.

The Blood District​

Just as in the days of segregation black performers had to go elsewhere to lay their heads at the end of the night. So was true of vampires and shifters. The Blood district has been a staple as long as the Strip itself has. and like both the city has grown around it. Just 50 yards further down from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is the Blood district. Catering to vampires, shifters and other manner of 'others' of all shapes and sizes. There are several clubs, bars/restaurants, the main blood bank an two motels. A stones throw away is the college campus.

Alternate US History

There are some slight changes to history as we know it. You can thank LND for helping me brainstorm this

Vamps have been out of the closet for a very long time. They started gunning for equal rights during the civil rights fight for African Americans.

JFK was a shifter of unknown flavor. His mother was the shifter his father was human. Taken out by the NSA as in the background they were recruiting talented humans, psychics, empaths, telepaths etc. Things were bad enough with the blacks and vampires screaming for equal rights, they did not what the cluster fuck that would have ensued with shifters thrown into the bag as well. Silver bullets obviously instead of the 'Magic Bullet' theory

Because the children were 1/4 shifter they had a greater chance of being carriers of the genes but not shifters themselves. JFK jr was able to change.

Shifters were pretty much outed after a carrier was tested during the Human Genome Project.

Monica Lewinsky is not your average human, she has empathic abilities. She was the driving force behind the Freedom of Others Act during the Clinton Admin. Anti discrimination laws now included the words species and magical abilities.

Shifters have been embraced more openly than vampires because they do not prey on them to survive. With the exception of the odd ball rouge, shifters have been tolerated more also considering many war heros have been shifters.

Saddam Hussein was taken out of power during the gulf war. The UN moved in and a fairer government was put in place. 9/11 still happened but the main reason for going to Iraq was to quell the unrest that has grown over the years as shifters and other beings alike have come out across the world and in the middle east.

Gas prices are still a pain but that's the nature of the beast. The economy however is nowhere as bad as it is currently.

Background: Tyrone was the son of a ranger, and spent much of his free time on a native american indian reserve in the mountains. He was 13 and a half when he had his first turn, and was wondering the woods alone. He was found by the shaman of the Indian tribe and was taken in by the wisened old man. Throughout his schooling, Tyrone would spend most of his time on the reserve talking with the Shaman, who taught him of his new found powers, revealing himself and many of his tribe to be Wolf shifters themselves. He then began teaching Tyrone of the magic of the tribe, and Tyrone left school to live permantly on the reserve.

However it wasn't long before Tyrone desired to find more like himself and so he left the reserve to travel to Las Vegas, home to vampires and Shifter's alike.

A country lad in a rough setting, he grew reserved and tough, slow to make friends but fierce in protecting those he does acquire.

Hobbies: When not reciting quietly the lore he was taught or practicing incantations, Tyrone enjoys nothing more then relaxing and fishing, a reminder of his old quiet life in the mountains of home.

Likes: Appreciates loyalty more than anything else, and is extremely protective of all those he cares for. He also prides himself on his honesty, and expects the same from those around him

Dislikes: Liars and cheats. People with no morales. intolerance

Background: Michael was born to a fairly poor family in the summer of 1783 in Paris, France. His father Jacques worked as a cooper that produced barrels for one of the local vineyards. His mother Estelle tended to the home and other matriarchal duties during the early years of Michael’s life. The earliest memories that Michael has are split between home and one of the smaller taverns in Paris from when he was about four years old. Michael's father was killed during the riots between the peasantry and the noble's the day before the boy's 6th birthday. Both he and his mother were saved from living and begging in the streets by the tavern owner. After his lessons Michael would find himself sitting beside the fire in the tavern, watching people come and go and listing to the music that filled the establishment. It didn't take long for the boy born with an ear for music to let his curiosity get the better of him. Much to everyone's surprise with no formal training Michael was able to completely play the music he had heard, note for note. It didn't take long for word to spread about the child prodigy playing at the humble tavern. That word brought a lovely young woman named Marie de Rousseau. Meeting Marie would change his life and world view in more than one way.

Michael's mother consented for the boy to go with Marie for proper schooling in the way of music as well as other aspects of life. In her company he met many fantastic and usual people. His tutor and mentor for several years was a man called Nikoli. Nikoli was one of the fae, an elf to be exact and it was he who taught him the way of the sword. Of course Nikoli wanted his pupil to really excel at swordplay and so on his recommendation and some convincing pleading on Michael’s part, Marie sent for her old friend Duncan and his companion Amara. While Nikoli was so waif of a man, the tall and brawny highlander easily overshadowed the elf. The youth landed on his posterior many times while sparring with Duncan but he did get better with time. At the same time he found out that not only were Duncan and Amara were vampires, but Marie was as well. It did put the final puzzle pieces together for him as he had began to notice that Marie seemed untouched by the sands of time. Also during that time he was introduced to another student, Colette. It was love at first sight, at least for him, because Colette was reserved about her feelings towards him. Of course once Michael revealed his feelings for her, Colette expressed herself as well. Once Michael was done with his schooling at the age of twenty one, he was turned by Marie's maker and he adopted the last name of de Rousseau. After that Marie, Nikoli, Michael and Colette began to explore all of Europe, in pursuit of music, to share their talents as well as to enjoy other's talents as well.

Tragedy struck however during the mid 19th century while they were in England. After one performance one night Colette decided to leave early to head home. Unfortunately she never made it there. She had fallen victim to the murder known as Jack the Ripper. Michael’s anguish was quickly overshadowed by his anger and need for revenge. It was only the cooler heads of Marie and Nikoli that prevented him from destroying all of Whitechapel. Marie had many years on the earth and was more than able to defend herself, but she fell prey to Jack as well. With her death both Nikoli and Michael were spurred into action. Colette had been one thing, because she had been young, but Marie should not have been taken by a mere human. Jack was more than he seemed. It took two years to not only track Jack down but to also figure out what he was. Nikoli's knowledge of the dark and the occult proved useful as they were soon able to determine that Jack was an incubus with the inclination to murder and mutilate his targets instead of just feeding from them. Several more women died before the pair managed to devise a spell powerful enough to banish Jack from the realm. Heartbroken and with only each other to lean on they left England for Nikoli's homeland of Greece. It was there that they established the final resting places for Marie and Colette, before slipping into reclusion seeing none other then each other and quite often the bottom of a bottle. After nearly a year of such behavior the both managed to extract themselves from the depression that struck them after the tragedy. Michael decided it was time for him to go his own way in life and set out for America, while Nikoli headed east into Asia seeking ancient artifacts. When news reached him about the newest trends in music Michael headed straight for the heart of it, Chicago.

The 1920’s were roaring with the sounds of Jazz and the Blues. Both styles of music struck a chord with Michael having been through recent tragedy. They gave him an outlet finally to all that was burdening him. He was still finding the bottle but not as often and not as heavily as before. With prohibition in force it would not be a surprise that he became involved with the mob and their bootlegging operations. The music scene stayed hot for the next few decades and just about the time Michael thought he was going to be completely settled in he received a letter from Duncan and Amara. It was 1955 and they had recently settled in quite comfortably in Las Vegas and told him of the opportunities there. It didn’t take him long to make the decision to head west to meet up with the acquaintances who he hadn’t seen in quite some time. Before leaving Chicago, Michael had managed to amass a more then modest fortune, a large sum of which had very questionable origins. It was time to leave before too many people started asking the wrong questions. He had been lucky in the two decades that he stayed in Chicago after Al Capone was taken down by Eliot Ness.

When he moved to the Strip, Michael quickly invested a large portion of his amassed fortune into starting up what would become one of the better known music spots on the strip. He opened The Spot in the summer of 1956 after getting settled in to a home in Paradise Nevada. The club would change names to Crimson Rhythms and Rhapsody when the area officially became known as the Blood District. To this day Michael owns and operates the club using it as a means to promote and help establish musical talent from around the country.

Background:
Twenty-five years ago a pretty baby girl was born to a family in Tacoma, WA. She had a sister three years older and soon came another sister younger then her by several years. The family were happy and content with life.

Completely oblivious as most humans were at that time, they knew nothing of the creatures, the vampires, were-animals, etc that also made earth home. One night the family loaded into their car and headed off to celebrate the older sister making the junior cheer squad. They were on their way home from pizza and ice cream when out of no where a speeding car ran through an intersection slamming into the passanger side of the family's car killing the mother and oldest daughter on impact. Krym, who was sitting between her baby sister and older sister, was thrown to the floorboard where she was nearly crushed by her sister and the rear seat as well as the two front seats.

She woke up in Harbor View Hospital in Seattle, WA 2 weeks later. The poor nurses had the chore of telling her about the deaths of her parents, her father died in surgery that first night, and her older sister. Her baby sister survived with only a few scratchs. It seems that somehow her body had covered her sister's preventing her from being hurt. Her grandmother was the only one left to care for them now.

It was not known that the blood donations needed to be screened for an added thing, lycanthropy and all the other strains. Krym was given massive amounts of blood during those two weeks and at least one batch was tainted. A year later the hospital was sued and had to award everyone that was given blood during that time period. Krym became a very rich young lady over night, though the realization of what had happened to her didn't become apparent for a few years more.

When she hit puberty her body went through many changes, not just the normal teenage ones. She grew fur and her body began to rearrange itself until where a human girl once stood, there now was a large cloud leopard. Her grandmother was afraid and tried to keep it a secret, but like most secrets it slipped out. The authorities were called and Krym was taken away. She lived locked up with others like herself for four years while the authorities tried to "fix" her problem. One night during the dark moon, several from the facility escaped. She's been on her own since she turned 17, alternating hiding from the people who want to capture her and kicking their authorative asses!

Hobbies: Kicking ass, hanging out, running through the woods and pacific rainforest.

Likes: Varies according to her moods. Typical kitty cat...LOL
