Has anyone ever heard of a story about a girl who wears a ribbon around her neck and then when she dies as an older women she gets her husband to take it off and her head falls off?....

If so do you know the name of it????

You can probably find that story many places. Most stories have been told in culture after culture over eons.

As a storyteller by profession I just happen to have an idea of where to look. I remember it being called The Green Ribbon in a short collection of scary stories for kids.

Here is the book I had in mind. It's a children's "picture book." The title is In a Dark, Dark Room and Other Scary Stories and it's by by Alvin Schwartz. The third out of seven stories in The Green Ribbon. There is also a thing at the end on where the stories came from.

I remember that story, but I think the way I read it was a different variation. I remember the husband always asking her why she wore the ribbon and her saying, "If I take it off, I'll die." He was unwilling to accept it, and one nite, as she slept, he crept out, got her scissors, cut the ribbon and her head fell off.

That is a slightly different variant of the story. In the first version the ribbon was only taken off after she died of old age. In this one the "curious cat" caused his wife's early demise.
