Chicago Lit-together Party FOOD!

It looks like the wife and I will be flying in Thursday afternoon so in order to contribute we will need a grocery ride to the closest Jewel or Dominic's.:D

Don't know yet what I would be contributing by suggestion are always welcome.

I didn't realize you were bringing your lady! How very cool!

Yes, I think once people are at the hotel it will be easier.

:rose:

We talked about it tonight and she said she might enjoy hanging out with us, but things could change before I buy my tickets. Ya never know.

Ahem . . .

Chicago dogs? Red hots?

Fine. I'll just make a run and grab a few bags full. :p

I'll bring the ingredients for hot buttered rum, all blended into the butter. That way all we have to do is let it warm to room temp., boil some water and add rum. Somehow I don't think there will be any shortage of that!

LOL!

I think I'll bring a coffee pot, too.

The ones in the room make two cups - we'll need more.

Oh - VM - can you be in charge of post it notes?

Last year Wenchie had the idea to use post-it notes to jot down all the crazy sayings and quotes we had. Lit-wits, we named 'em.

We stuck them to a huge piece of paper, and I took the entire thing home to type up and share.

We did wind up with many quotes we could not attribute to a certain person due to - oh, I don't know - drinking, flirting, laughing, sillyness?

But you seem the responsible sort.

Maybe.

:D

Responsible? Me, the one so right-brained that some scales don't even measure it? I'll try but I'm so distractible that you might want to make this a team effort. Just sayin'. I'm honored and all that but would hate to let someone's plot bunny get away unrecorded.

Sure. I can do that,

I think.

:D

Since I'll be flying in, I'll be glad to help with a supermarket run or whatever. :D

My sombrero's off to whomever came up with the idea for Mexican night. Muy bueno, muy bueno.

I could probably contribute towards buying stuff for people to eat off of.

And I am looking forward to Saturday night. I've never had Jambalaya. And I love hot food. :D

I can toss a crock pot in the car -- and I'll happily add more nosh as needed.

Aside: Jell-O shots! :nana: I want one off each lady's cleavage.

I'm not sure yet if I'm working Thursday night but definitely put me down for cookies and chips for Friday...and would you like a variety of 2-liter bottles of pop for mixing or non-alcoholic sippin'? I'm local so I'll bring it cold ;-)

Being a "local" I have crock pots (I think I still have three as long as one of the kids didn't snarf for college), electric griddle (if you don't want to haul), electric burners, coffee pots, electric tea kettles, pots, pans, etc.

Nero was thinking of bringing a "pirate ham" for the party but don't know where that will fit in other than a general "I need protein" and more than chips kinda snack.

We have a wonderful ethnic market here that sells amazingly fresh items for the mexican fiesta. (Who will be the pinata for the night?)

I also have a boneless buffalo chicken dip that I had planned on bringing so we can add that to the finger foods for Friday/Sat night. And a few other bonus surprise items. :D

Best places to eat within ten minutes or so of the immediate O'Hare vicinity:

Breakfast: Gails Carriage Inn on Elmhurst Road (Rte.83) just north of Algonquin Road (Rte. 62).

Pizza: Giordano's on Higgins Road (Rte. 72) a couple blocks west of Mannheim Road.

Greek: Yanni's at Algonquin Road and Arlington Heights Road (about 20 min. west).

Italian: There's a very good one a couple miles north on Mannheim; will return with the name when I recall it.

French: Retro Bistro on Golf Road at Busse Road (about 15 minutes north and west of the airport).

Late night: Artemis Restaurant on Golf Road at Busse Road (until 1 a.m., Fri. and Sat.).

Of course, this is on the naive assumption that people will want to, you know, actually leave the hotel.

Leave the hotel?

I know some party guests who aren't planning on leaving their rooms.

(Thank you for the restaurant info!) :rose:

Why fly to Chicago to never leave your hotel room? There's a Motel 6 within 25 miles of almost every American's home and that's a helluva lot cheaper. ;)

I sure as heck don't intend to hibernate. I can do that at home! Let there be socializing, for Heaven's sake, and painting the town . . . uh . . . purple? Black with twinkling stars? What colors are erotic, anyway?
