It’s the turn of the century – a time for change and heightening expectations.
Henri (Comte de Rambertin) lives alone in elegant rambling French Chateau set in parkland rolling down to a slow moving river. Likes fine sensual things – the joys of the body and the mind. Previously held house-parties at this time of year, masked balls and other entertainments of a sensual and erotic kind.
Successful writer for private collections. Is hoping to create a new erotic novel for wider distribution but has been suffering from writer’s block.

European – old family with faded aristocratic connections and somewhat intriguing past
Tall, slim, lithe, middle aged - slight flecks of grey.
Serious nature – belies the twinkle in his eyes.

The Chateau while private has an open riverbank. Small boats occasionally moor and picnic there –also there is a somewhat overgrown public footpath across one corner of the grounds where walkers will sometimes pass.

Henri knows he needs some inspiration – but how – just how can he recover it?

Henri

It’s a hot, ripe, sultry late summer afternoon. A feeling of sensual laziness is in the air.- It’s a time for doing nothing – except there is a lustful feeling which creates possibilities and some degree of uncertainty and expectation in the minds of all.

Henri had strolled down from his Chateau across the rolling lawns to the riverside. He carried a chilled bottle of fine sauternes and a bowl of strawberries. He was planning scenarios for his new book. He wrote erotic fiction and fantasies. The mix of shade and heat and the lazy flow of the river on a hot afternoon created the lustful indolence that brought ideas to mind. Half his own ideas and others just seemed to filter in. Settling on a soft grass bank in the relative privacy of his gardens – he sipped his wine and crushed a succulent strawberry in his mouth savouring the cool, sweet juice flow down his throat.

El moved back to France and his old family Chateau 5 years ago He liked Burgundy – its mix of art and nature, of food and wine and the pleasures of the senses.

He wondered if anyone would pass this afternoon – smiled to himself at the possibilities that might create – and even if it was just a brief hello – the personality of another might trigger his imaginations. He sipped more wine, leant back luxuriating in the indolent heat- listening to insects buzz and inhaling the warm heady perfume of a summers day.

His eyes flickered and closed and he began to daydream of river banks – Of ratty and mole – of Alice in wonderland, of elegant art – paintings he had viewed of woodland and river scene, of picnics and lovers – he visualised bodies slowly swirling in embrace – the tinkle of glass, the suggestions of giggles and the rustlings and urgent whispering of couples – and even more. Maybe here or in the Chateau !!– Henri wondered how things would shape.
