When reading or writing an erotic story how large do you like the male characters "member" to be?

I don't like size to be mentioned full stop when it comes to breasts or cocks, it completely throws me off, especially as if a number is mentioned it's usually ridiculously big and I just end up thinking "not if i've got anything to say about it sonny-jim!"

I'm with EL, I never give measurments, at least as far as dicks and tits go. I might describe a character as "about six foot tall" but that's as far as it goes with measurements.

In the past, I've mentioned specific size by a number, before I knew having a mug shot breakdown of the characters' attributes was considered a huge mistake by many. Now, I'll mention size if it's relevant to the story. In a few of the things I've written, penis size is major factor in the plot. So, there are ways to describe a character's endowments without giving a specific number.

The story I'm working on right now is about gay male porn stars, so, of course they all have to be varying degrees of large. Usually, the industry standard would be eight inches or above. A big part of the story is my female main character's shock about the penises she encounters being each larger than the next, about her graduation to being kind of a size queen.

There was really no way to avoid discussions about exact size at some point in the story, where a new recruit is being measured. I think I can get away with it, as long as it isn't in the first paragraph.

Never are you going to see me start a story with: "George palmed his slick eleven inch boner, thinking of Linda's 38 double d's swaying as they had ridden the ferris wheel." :)

You're assuming the story HAS a male character. ;)

If you are writing stories and not just stroke, then it seems the length should be appropriate to your situation. In much of the loving wives tales, it seems important that the man she is cheating on her husband with should be remarkably endowed.

In most of my stories, it's amoot point, as a quick change to what's on the harness can have my lead enowed like John holmes or tinky winky, depending on the situation :)

In the one I am doing now, where I have several actual guys, the length and girth varries from Character to characterrangeing from the redoutably endowed Ivan to the moreately endowed Gustav. With various othes thrown in as the situation demands.

At no time have I given measurements in inches and have used such measurment standards only once, when I wished to say that a certain character, at full penetration still had over an inch of his equoiptment out side.

I've never used measurements of any type in any of my stories. Except height. Once.

To me using measurements shows lack of both imagination and empathy. All my stories, even the stroke pieces are about emotion. Measurements are a thing of rationality, not emotion.

Edited to add: You forgot 'Who gives a rat's ass?' in your poll so I didn't vote.

I have a series of stories, submitted back in September 2003, titled "Big Cock." Can someone suggest how I might develop the stories without some discussion of the main characters cock size? TIA.

It depends completely on the story for me.

If I'm writing something that is pure fantasy, I might enlarge his penis outside "normal" boundaries.

But if I'm writing something based on a more realistic plot, I'd give him a nice, average-sized penis.

But please, don't give us a list of numbers, for example:

He was 6'2" with an 8" penis when fully erect.

You could write something to hint at his size, and let the reader fill in the gap with their own imagination. Trust your reader to figure it out; they'll appreciate you for it.

Do you mean without giving actual measurements?

You could go with comparative sizes: "His penis was as long and as thick as her forearm."

*burp*

I like the description.... average in length but with some girth.

In stroke though while I do not give 'specifics', a comment from a female character will make it clear that the main male is *cough*cough* well-endowed. Or as I've put it... genetically advantaged.

It leaves the actual size to the reader imagination.

That way the size-queens/kings can think MASSIVE... while someone with smaller tastes can imagine their favorite size.

It's one of those places where being subtle will allow the reader to customize the story to their liking without realizing what they're doing.

Sincerely,
ElSol

The entire plot of "Big Cock" was based upon a high school student who became a legend in his own time because of the unusual size of his cock. He was hired by a business that was failing and needed a male "customer interface specialist." The legend would not have been hired if his measurement was not known in advance.

Penises should be from 0.15 to 0.25 royal cubits.

Breast size should be measured in pecks. About 0.33 to 0.402 pecks is about right.

"She looked at herself in the mirror as she toweled off. Not bad for a 40 year-old, she thought, noticing her 0.367-peck breasts." --from 0.0001505 Furlongs of Throbbing Male Bliss by dr. mabeuse. (All rights reserved.)

I don't put numbers in my stories for the simple reason that I don't think in numbers - that's not erotic to me. I've never once in my life actually measured anyone's dick.

When I, ahem, encounter one, I don't think, "Hey, that's a nice looking 6 1/2 inch dick!" Instead, I think, "Oh, he's hard for me already!" or "Mm-hmm, I wanna touch that...now" or "I can't wait to wrap my lips around him."

In my stories, I think I've only even once described someone as large. THe rest of the time, I just leave the size issue open and focus on taste, texture, scent, and actions.

I received a feedback once where the reader was upset with my story on Lit because I didn't give a size for the woman's breasts or the man's cock. I replied to the feedback with, "How big do you want them to be?"

If the story in question is ABOUT a big cock, I think a number would be okay to use, just not as the sole description. Maybe mention a number once and leave it. It's pretty likely that a guy with a huge cock is going to measure it and know exactly how big it is. And equally as likely that a woman will get the measurement wrong if estimating. LOL. In my case, my gf always estimates at bigger than I am. Sounds more impressive when she's talking to her grandmother about me, so I don't complain.

Wait, she tells her grandmother about your penis?

I don't often mention it, any more, but I believe in my earlier stories here I may have. It sounds like something I would have done, more or less mimicking some things I'd seen for lack of experience in the erotic fiction field. One of those deals where I thought there was something to it more than just writing the way I do and adding in the sex.

Most of my male characters I figure to be average (whatever that means) and my female characters... I don't know that I mention it much, but it depends on the character. Equally inexact terms would mostly apply.

I think we need a measurement for ass size too.

May I suggest the bushel?

I prefer 2 cats fighting in a bag.

Nah. I already use "Two midgets fighting under a blanket" as a comparison for large breasts. We can't have too many similarities is our measuring systems.

Mine is more politically correct. ;)

Wouldn't bushel be more appropriate as a measurment for female genitalia?

Size is mostly irrelevant. The reader is supposed to empathize with the characters. If you have a guy hung like a hamster or a whale, well not too many guys are left to feel 'involved' nor women for that matter. Too big is to big, the same with too small.
Its not the equipmet, its the people, the emotions, the situation, the action.
Tougher to write? Better to read!
