Characters from stories meeting

The Subject line doesn't allow me enough space to fully explain my question. Has anyone with several submissions ever tried to weave characters from different stories together?? It is an idea that intrigues me, especially since most of my stories are based around NYC. That allows for unanticipated interaction. Just wondering if anyone has tried and succeeded (or failed) in this effort.

I haven't tried that, but it's a very interesting idea.

I was actually thinking of developing a strong character and put it in many different story as a foe or other minor character.

It's to SOAP opera idea. Characters flow from one show to another.

Don't go down that road. What happens is not that the same character goes from show to show, but that most of the minor parts have no character at all. They are just stereotypes, and the same ones appear in all the Soaps. Classics are "the crusty old man who is a miser", "the slut with a heart of gold", the criminal "good boy gone wrong", and, of course, "the mother who loves him anyway".

I do like the idea of a strong pair of characters from different story series suddenly meeting.

Yeah, maybe two story series cross paths.

as long as they don't prick the wrong bubbles;)

I have done it but only subtly where a character from a previous novel makes an appearance in another.

I have a character that I created when I was eight that has always been my favorite and over the years I have continued evolving him to the point that I use him for about any role.

Why did I mention this? Well the answer is because with this character I have had him go from one story to another I have written and it seems to go over well for me.

Normally I wont make him a main character (though I have at times) I will normally make him a minor character that plays a key subtly role in the story.

He has a group of ‘friends’ that I like to use as a group throughout my stories when possible, because they just work so well together for me.

After Thought: I hope my rambling above made sense because some times I ramble on and totally miss the issue I was trying to discuss.
