I’m being dumb, I’m certain of it, but if I wanted to start a multi-chapter story on Literotica do I need to do anything other than simply add ‘Ch. 01’ or whatever to the end of the title each time? Or is there some behind-the-scenes thing to mark them as parts of a single story?

If it’s all submitted at once, as one piece, that’s it. If on the other hand, you are planning to add one chapter at a time, then you probably want to have a central title with chapter numbers, eg. “A Bride’s Delight, Ch 3.” They will be listed sequentially.

Stories are listed alphanumerically by title and are not sorted by submission date. So you could post the following stories in any order, and they'd be grouped together like this:
Ample Sex: Big Balls
Ample Sex: Doggy-Style
Ample Sex: Huge ch.1
Ample Sex: Huge ch.2
Ample Sex: Huge ch.3
Ample Sex: Juicy

Meanwhile, some hints.
  • Multi-chapter series tend to lose readers with each chapter but can retain a hardcore of followers over dozens or hundreds of chapters.
  • Each chapter should ideally be a contained unit.
  • A short set of chapters might do better as a single longer submission -- that's required of contest entries.
  • Keep in mind that a LIT page is ~3750 words, that one-page stories often don't do well, that 3 LIT pages (~11k words) is a common submission length, but you'll likely get good scores with 8-10 page stories because only those who like your work will stick to the end and vote.
  • Unless your story is endless, it's best to finish it and post all its chapters sequentially.
Have fun here.

I just posted a nine chapter story and have also done other stories of 6-7 chapters. I generally do the entire story first in MS Word. I can take my time to edit and rewrite. The individual chapters will carry "MAIN TITLE: Chapter 1" or "MAIN TITLE: Chapter 2" and also have a sub-title for that individual chapter just to give some indication of it's content and progression to the total story. Then I submit all chapters in succession to the "Novels and Novellas" section. I have noticed though that even though I may submit multiple chapters on the same day, Lit seems to dole them out one chapter a day.
